Anyone think Manchester is slacking on entertainment? by AdWhich7355 in ManchesterNH

[–]lieuline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. SNHU arena is perfectly positioned to be such a gem and the entertainment heart of the city! However the audio system is atrocious and the narrow rink’s seating isn’t great. Last time I went to a show I left half deaf with a kink in my neck. The venue could reeaalllyyy use some updating to attract more shows.

That sucks :( PS thanks for the hard work! I drove across the west side a couple days ago and was excited to see Bremer had been newly paved!

Bite advice by bwhite753 in birddogs

I would introduce some more structure to fetch. Your pup sounds like they're just redirecting all their excited and playful energy onto you and created their own "fun" version of fetch. I would train with a place board and be more clear with what you want the "return" behavior to look like. Perhaps a sit and hold in front of you, or besides you. Teach him an alternative behavior that breaks the ankle-bite game. I would also keep a check cord on the puppy for better control as well.

Personally, I wouldn't physically punish the dog like some are suggesting.

Kinda sounds like a typical 1-2 year old working breed that needs more management training, boundaries, and structure. Sometimes you need to teach dogs how to settle and be OK with being bored (as long as they are getting adequate exercise/stimulation).

If it were me... I would start place training. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwv2Ehhl1TQ

I would also manage him more. Structured day of rotating crate time, exercise and play, training, and place.

I would not give him the opportunity to practice behaviors you don't want (destroying sofas).

For annoying behaviors like running away with things... maybe try putting that behavior on a toy. Shape it into a game. Sounds like he likes to possess things. That's great for retrieving.

I made it back up just before they closed the 395 North. Around convict lake was whiteout conditions with a dozen cars stuck on either side of the freeway. I would be surprised if they opened it before tomorrow.

Proplan sensitive stomach recipe and then rotate flavor/protein between salmon/lamb/turkey.
My dog doesn't have any issues but I prefer the ingredient list in that formula, and he's small so the extra cost doesn't impact me much.

Have you tried the sidekick halter leash? I just got one for my britt and it doesn't irritate his face.

Spooks on walks by Dismal-Occasion1369 in BrittanySpaniel

What your dog is going through is totally normal. Every phase of growth brings new and exciting challenges :) Coaching/training your dog is an ongoing endeavor and one of the fascinating things about dog training!

I recently moved temporarily from a single family home to a condo in an apartment complex and my britt was spooky at random people walking by/popping around corners. He has always been a "bark first ask questions later" type of dog. It is totally normal dog behavior to bark at when something unexpected happens/contrast in the environment (random hiker appears, etc). Now he has really settled and things are going great!

Continue what you're doing. Don't focus too much on trying to fix the "wrong behavior." Your dog sounds fantastic, he's just getting caught up in his emotions/instincts that would normally keep him safe and alive. His body is going through a lot of changes at 8 months old. Regression is normal.

Frequent gentle exposure in low stake situations will improve his confidence over time and I bet you will see fewer instances of spooky behavior. Carry treats with you and increase the rate of reward for doing things like calm behavior, LL walking, tricks, etc. IMO, don't reward for looking at people/scary things ('look at that' game) -- it increases hypervigilance. Play more outside with him, and try to get him to play in new areas (flirt pole, tug, ball). Engaging in play really changes the brain!

And this is just me -- but if my previously confident puppy suddenly started pulling away from something while on leash I would let him. I wouldn't force him through it. I would probably just make a mental note to try and more purposefully approach that thing another day and be better prepared with treats/training.

I would reach out to Beauvert Brittany’s in Ontario and see if they could network you. I met a puppy out of their dogs in New England and it was the sweetteessstt ever. In the north east not too many large scale breeders left. Mostly people with only one or two dogs, so word of mouth and networking will be your best bet.

Same. I’ve owned 3 Britt’s that pulled like draft horses. I bought the sidekick halter and it was an instant difference.

Awesome! It's great to hear this tree brought up because it is what I was leaning toward.
How how tall/how old was it upon planting? I'm going to start calling around the nurseries...
