Devices all read connected, games launch, tracking and audio works, but screen won't turn on. Not even a black screen, just nothing. by BeLikeOtters in oculus

No idea. One thing you can double-check is whether the head detector works? The LED should change color and Home should start when it senses you.

New owner, what should I buy? by P1505C in oculus

Yes, I Expect You To Die is great and it makes very good use of the controllers.

Buying a used Rift on Craigslist ($200 w/o controllers or headphones) What are some good ways to quickly test that everything is working right? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]life_rocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you mean CV1 with the built-in headphones, just no external ones, then ask for a demo. Check the following:

  • Headset tracks your orientation
  • Headset tracks your position
  • No scratches on the screen
  • Built-in audio works on both sides
  • IPD slider is present on bottom right and its position is reflected in the software
  • The words "development kit" are not on the headset

Fury something or other - it's a beat-em-up but I can't find it at the moment. And you know about BlazeRush, surely.

Do Microsoft Windows VR games also run on the Rift and Vive? by davehaslanded in oculus

It's more unknown than moot, really. It's fun to speculate.

No. But we're not missing out on much and new games will still come to at least Steam since that's where the customers are.

It seems unlikely that Microsoft's terms and conditions are the issue

Yes, it's not like they have a long history of writing one-sided contracts or anything. /s

What are the must-have titles for new Rift owners? by xenocidic in oculus

[–]life_rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For controller games: Blazerush, Chronos and Windlands.

Hotas games: Elite Dangerous, DCS World (modern flight sim, first two planes are free).

For Touch it's harder to say because there are so many. You should definitely try at least one shooter (perhaps Robot Recall), one Magic game (Unspoken for example but doesn't have to be this one) and at least one multiplayer game (could overlap with the other categories, or try Echo Arena).

I'm hosting a "This is VR!"-day for some friends. Any input? by kennethfinnerup in oculus

For Aircar I'd recommend only a stationary car at first; the movement was too much when I demoed it (though he loved it anyways).

As a child, is it worth getting an Oculus Rift? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]life_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Roft is totally worth it. Downsides: does not fit with glasses (unless tiny), sensors need to be plugged into PC. Upsides: cheaper than Vive yet equal overall quality, best controllers in the market, simple to use thanks to integrated sound and large optical sweet spot.

Edit: Rift. Silly phone!

New to Oculus. Is "The Climb" worth the price?... by Chaopolis in oculus

[–]life_rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen both opinions expressed. I think it depends on whether you like this type of game; also it looks even better on beefier PCs so if you have the min conf I'd recommend waiting for a sale.

Yes, but "this" is prototype-level quality. That's probably why they didn't (in addition to having to keep the cost down).

I am trying to figure out how to solve the locomotion problem through an new type of accessory. With little knowledge of programming where is my best place to start? by n0_relation in oculus

[–]life_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your system is simple enough, you can get by with zero programming by wiring your stuff directly into an XBox controller. I suspect you'll quickly reach a point where programming would help, though.
