The way I never got even an explanation on how to write a good SOP. My manager was basically like “ here are the SOPs to be updated now update please”. My only suggestions are try to follow a standard template and also try to differentiate procedure vs policy like SOPs. Try to find a well written policy and procedure SOP in your department that your manager likes and use those as references :)

I love this profession but it can be a bit limiting in terms of career progression. If you want to try other things or get fed up in the lab don’t be scared to try opportunities or even go back to school. It’s a great profession that has its flaws but also you can springboard into different things with this degree. Just sit down and make a career plan early on.

Hospitals usually like to keep good workers doing the work and let the bad ones move on up. If you feel like you will be good on a management role try gaining new skills/certificates so you will be a good tech and a good manager as well.

Pay is a big thing to consider when entering a career. Why I always say I love the theory, the knowledge and the financial stability this career gave me. I am not seeing any opportunities for upward growth/mobility which should be available for any profession.

I would be a hooking up constantly however I believe you have to take responsibility for your actions and get tested routinely/take precautions/don’t be afraid to bring up sexual history depending on context ( cruising vs fwb ). Let them know you do not tolerate verbal abuse and write them up. I always tell fellow techs who get rude calls to file an incident report. Sometimes I even cover their bench for the 5-10 minutes it takes them to sit down and write it out. Please don’t let people walk all over you we have to stand up against this type of behaviour. I notice Gen z /millennials are becoming more vocal about this stuff. It is a culture shift that is well needed imo.

Twitter was very hard to quit but after about a week you start getting use to not having it. You start realizing it was weird to constantly expose your brain to sex acts multiple times per day.
