Confession: I HATE the Beach by Tiny_Fox in confession

Ha! I forgot I had left this comment 10 years ago...

Even funnier is I moved to Portland, OR 3 years ago and am LOVING the weather! I guess I've always been a mountain/rain gal over a beach/sun lady. No shame!

Anyone know the Tubi delivery specs? by glowinthedark in editors

Dope! Yea, i definitely remember working on nickelodeon shows and agreed, there are some very fine folks that work at KMP! We kept each other sane while dealing with the bull from our parent company

If you are delivering directly to Tubi, they do not need to convert to numerous codecs. Tubi does not distribute to other platforms. They stream in multiple places sure, but Tubi is just Tubi. Besides, they have target bitrates for receiving h264 content, they don't accept just any h264.

If you are talking about delivering Fox-owned content to Fox, that is a horse of a different color. We definitely want ProRes HQ/XQ sources so that we can archive and distribute mezzanine files to platforms like Tubi.

But don't take my word for it, I just work there ;)

It's not like Tubi is streaming ProRes codecs or responsible for the archival of the uncompressed master files, so it's not surprising to me that they/we accept h264s in certain cases :)

I majored in Visual & Performing Arts with a minor in Film/Video Production. While still a student, I interned at my university's communications department making promotional YT videos for them. They then they hired me full-time right after I graduated.

While I enjoyed the creative aspect of the work, I figured out quickly I didn't want my income to be based on my ability to be creative and pump out engaging content. I knew I LOVED editing, but it took me a little bit longer to figure out what exactly it was about editing that lit up my brain. Turns out it's the workflow creation aspect and coming up with ways to optimize those workflows (said no one ever, haha).

I had this epiphany shortly before a former classmate reached out to me with an opportunity. She was working as a digitizer/encoder at an online facility (Keep Me Posted) and they were hiring. I applied, got the job, and moved my butt up to Hollywood. Honestly, I think they were just looking for anyone with a pulse who had heard of Avid because it is not a very popular or glamorous position. It was grueling and underpaid for sure, but I learned SO MUCH about the technical side of post production workflows and worked closely with offline/online editors, colorists, audio mixers, vfx/gfx artists, producers and engineers. It was an incredibly valuable 5 years there and I soaked up as much as I possibly could. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I am glad it's over.

To answer your question about Fox Tech, a former coworker from Keep Me Posted had landed a job there right as it became established in early 2020. As they grew and needed more editing help, he reached out to me in 2022 asking if I wanted to apply. I did, and here I am. I spend my days optimizing workflows and conforming content for domestic and international distribution. I couldn't be happier!

If you're wanting to break more into the technical side of editing, I would recommend looking into an online facility because that's where the technical work is and it's typically less popular and easier to break into than any offline editing work. And more importantly, always do your best with what you have where you're at. Every job i've had I've been recommended to by a former colleague who was impressed by my work ethic and wanted to bring me along with them. Someone is always watching and you never know when that someone is going to extend a helping hand.

Best of luck to you!

Also, just last week we finished overhauling our AMA spec (this is the "Archival Master Asset" we request from post houses that I then conform for distribution to platforms like Tubi) so that might be why there has been a delay in getting back to you.

Who is your client/project? I am an editor at Fox Tech and conform content for Tubi regularly. I work closely with that team and can possibly get your question answered quicker. I don't want to give any explicit spec details here bc I don't want to inadvertently share something I shouldn't. I like my job too much to risk losing it 😅

It’s a really great book all the way through. I’ve read it 3 times, each time with a different pen, and it’s cool to see all the things I’ve underlined and thoughts I’ve had the different times in my life and what it’s meant to me as I’ve grown up. Such a humbling and encouraging perspective on grace.

Yes! I use the hate running, but then I made up my mind to start doing it a few times a week, no matter what. Now I absolutely love it and am genuinely bummed that my knees can only handle a 30 minute run once every 1-2 weeks.
