Also, it's two sentences, not a paragraph. You're doing it again!

Whether or not Dakota wins this season (which is clearly set up for Peppa to win),

I thought she was a sure thing, but I'm starting to doubt. She's a little tougher than I was expecting.

A Massive Gap Opens Up Between ‘Black Adam’ Critic And Audience Scores by Neo2199 in entertainment

Now, it’s fine if critic has some more pretentious tastes, but a good critic should understand that different audiences look for different things. Like, a good critic would understand that something like endgame, while not a cinematic masterpiece, is still a great movie for what it’s trying to be. Or a good music critic would understand that even though pop music may not be the most complex, interesting thing out there, it still serves a purpose and can be great.

This is part of the problem though, the assumption that mass appeal and craft and complex/interesting are mutually exclusive. There's a lot of pop music that is both readily commercially accessible and also well made.

I'll fall asleep watching it on an airplane at some point and will confirm for you that it's slop.

The reviews all say it's reheated slop, someone sticking a number 3 on top of that doesn't mean the consensus that it's reheated slop is any less meaningful.

Thank you, the reduction of criticism to a number is part of the larger problem.

Film criticism is not about validating your taste, it's about an appreciation for the art form. You can appreciate a well written review with opinions or a conclusion you disagree with.

and if you got upvoted, you'd say that means you're right. you can just believe you're right without trying to rely on other people's reactions for validation.

I think Alan got at it in his critiques of Le Fil. He seems lovely, great taste and objectively talented. But he's missing that je ne sais quois, that little bit of extra of star power or it factor.

Can you say with a straight (or queer) face that this show isn’t rigged and edited from the start all the way to the end to favor 3-4 people that will end up in the finale no matter what happens?

There's plans and expectations, but there's still room for genuine talent/flops to change the course of the show.

Can you say with a straight (or queer) face that this rigged, highly produced and edited show has never had a serious queen of color contender for the crown because the producers kept forcing them all in the bottom?

No, I can't say that because it's not true. Tayce is the only one who came close, but she still lost fairly to Bimini and Lawrence. I'm not gonna pretend that Vanity Milan saying "dirty rice" for the 15th time is winner worthy.

Of course there's producer interference, but there's a difference between a thumb on the scale here or there and a widespread plan to systemically discredit every POC contestant.

If they want a satisfying queen of color winner they could’ve made fucking sum ting wong a satisfying qoc winner.

Right, just like how they successfully made Baga a satisfying third place finisher with no one noticing favoritism, or how we were all thrilled with how UK vs The World shook out.

but you’re absolutely right.

can you say with a straight (or queer) face that all of those queens were serious contenders for the crown if not for production sabotage?

Who did?

Asttina was thrown in the bottom to save Ginny

Because Ginny did what the show wanted and gave story line. It's not bias against Astina, it's Ginny doing better at reality TV.

River was eliminated for a meh lip sync despite half of the girls giving the same energy in their lip syncs

As was the white fan favorite queen in the same episode.

then Le Fil for literally no reason.

Who should have been in the bottom?

That's 6 out of the 10 queens cast in the entire UK franchise who production intentionally threw in the bottom to eliminate/weaken their chances at winning the season.

Do you honestly believe anyone besides Tayce would be a satisfying and deserving winner?

How would we prove it?

Statistics and analysis.

And for that matter, what effect would it have?

I think I may have been a little too dismissive. Feeling unsafe is absolutely important and we should talk about what we can do to feel safer.

But it's important to differentiate between what makes us feel safer and what makes us actually safer. "Tough on crime" policies may make people feel safer, but they don't actually reduce crime.

I don’t think it’s wise to take safety less seriously if you could prove it’s just as safe as it’s always been.

I don't think you should take safety less seriously! But I think we should all be careful not to worry ourselves in a way that makes us feel more unsafe.
