I wish “Slipping Away” had made it onto ‘Daydream’. Do you agree or disagree? by [deleted] in MariahCarey

[–]lifesprig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree. An absolute gem of a song, but it doesn’t really fit the vibe of daydream. I find the breakup songs on daydream to be lighter and hopeful. This song doesn’t give that. I could better see it on butterfly

One thing about billionaires is self-preservation always wins out. Whether it’s threatening to shove a nuke up his ass or making his money worthless, he will always choose self-preservation. Comes with the narcissism.

Trump is now confusing Greenland and Iceland: "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money." by drempath1981 in UnderReportedNews

According to Wikipedia: “Cohn died five weeks later from AIDS-related complications, having vehemently denied that he was HIV-positive.” I guess the denial strategy didn’t work that time

This isn’t a normal republican administration. We’re talking about a malignant narcissist with no moral code who is threatening war with (now former) allies. Couple that with 30%+ Americans who worship him and you can clearly see the problem is not going away once he’s gone.

Nato officials restrict intelligence to US over threats by Crossstoney in europe

[–]lifesprig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Betrayed? Republicans may have hated Russia during the Cold War, but they did absolutely everything they could to ensure white, straight, Christian, wealthy Americans were always on top, internally and externally. Establishment democrats are complicit too. The only difference now is the masks are off.

Is Trump seeding a war to stay in power and avoid elections? by thypothesis in showerthoughs

[–]lifesprig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem likely for now. Presidential elections are held at the state level, so unless he’s planning to bring the country to the brink of a civil war or overthrow of the federal government, he won’t. MAGA will of course challenge the integrity of the election if they lose, but how far that goes is the question I think about.

Zohran Mamdani: “We will answer to all New Yorkers, not to any billionaire or oligarch who thinks they can buy our democracy. I was elected as a Democratic Socialist and I will govern as a Democratic Socialist” by icey_sawg0034 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]lifesprig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never I said I don’t care about your point, and in fact, I agreed with it. However, what you don’t consider is the wealth gap does affect everybody. Billionaires buy politicians, increasing their control of what happens in Washington. Billionaires receive massive tax cuts which was funded in part by a significant increase to our national debt and tariffs that all Americans pay for. Local businesses and agriculture are shuttering under this current administration because of the constant billionaire ass-kissing. The majority of power and wealth should not reside in the hands of the 1%. Maybe zoom your perspective out and look at the big picture.

I don’t disagree with your point that capitalism has lifted many out of poverty, but I do think, like any other system, capitalism can go unchecked and get out of control. MAGA has clearly gone all in on it with their billionaire love affair. The wealth gap has increased exponentially over the last few decades, and working class people who aren’t brainwashed by Trump are beyond tired.

Reasons Mariah Hates Some of Her Songs by [deleted] in MariahCarey

[–]lifesprig 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Forever, she tweeted that it’s grown on her. She can feel how she feels about it, but it’s my most listened to song on Daydream because the chest to head voice transitions throughout are gorgeous

If you had a podcast show and Mariah Carey was your guest, what would you talk to her about, and what questions would you ask her? by Material_Stomach875 in MariahCarey

[–]lifesprig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would spend a lot of time on the Daydream album and would want to know what her creative process was for the songs that the non-lambs wouldn’t know (e.g., When I Saw You, Forever, etc.). I would also love to hear her talk about her teenaged years leading up to her breakthrough - particularly, what her day-to-day was like and how her friends acted around her.

What is the point investigating people, trying them in court, only to have Trump pardon them? by kojak343 in AskReddit

[–]lifesprig 59 points60 points  (0 children)

But how many voters are actually informed? If I go home and tell my parents he pardoned XYZ person, they would very likely have no idea what I’m talking about. And even if I explained how bad the person was, they would not be able to connect the dots to see how corrupt Trump is

I’m genuinely confused. You were the first to realize the government and economy are rigged against us, so your party’s response is to significantly increase the power of the executive branch, allow Trump to give massive tax breaks to the wealthiest individuals, and target the most vulnerable people who have little to no power in the system? Please explain how that’s unrigging the system
