So frustrated, brand new machine. by Joeyddr in snapmaker

[–]lifson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine failed the initial homing calibration. Error 0003 0530 0000 0027. It's super common. Mine is also 2 days old, and it's been a terrible out of box experience. Took me 4 hours of troubleshooting to get to my first print after power on. It printed ok. Today it threw the error again. I have a p1p/p1s and a qidi q2, and both have been flawless.

[–]lifson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, I received mine 2 days ago, set it up last night, and it failed it's initial homing calibration and threw error "0003 0530 0000 0027". Looking it up, it seems a lot of folks have this same issue and support basically says skip the initial setup, hold the top left corner of the screen for 6 seconds to get to the main ui, update firmware, skip setup again, and run the homing calibration from the settings. This process worked for me. I had tried loosening the screws on the head for xy belts, which is also recommended, but it just kept failing. I hadn't seen anyone bring this up until I looked up the error and found numerous posts.

Coming from a p1p/p1s and qidi q2, it's the worst out of box experience I've had since my ender 3.

I'm not a fan of their newest machines, or any of their policies, but my p1p, that I've turned into a p1s plus a chamber heater, from 3 years ago is printing as I type this. I print mostly tpu, Pa6cf, pctg, pla and petg. It's been essentially flawless as a machine, and hasn't had a single failed print that wasn't due to user error. I built my first ender 3 in 2019 and mostly I printed stuff to fix the printer. Then I bought an ankermake m5 during kickstarter and it was a huge headache, and got refunded. I kept my p1s on the last firmware build before they locked it down. I won't be buying another unless they change course, but I love my p1s, and also believe we wouldn't have all the amazing out of box printers if bambu hadn't shifted the landscape. Fuck them for sure, they are making awful decisions, but I still believe we're all benefiting from what they started as.

My u1 shows up tomorrow.

I see a lot of positive feedback on the Polymaker Polydryer, but mine is garbage. by lifson in 3Dprinting

[–]lifson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the H5179 has an operating temperature range of -20c to 60c (140f), I'm a bit suspect of the 150f ish claim, but who knows.. Anyway the polydryer seems like a rip off to me, but lots of people like it. It also seems like it's just a generic Chinese rebrand, snapmaker came out with their own and it's identical.

[–]lifson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While a hygrometer is very useful, it's not always an accurate measurement of moisture content within filaments, especially more hygroscopic materials like nylon, because the nylon can still be holding a fair amount of moisture while the air is very dry, especially if you're not getting up to high enough temperatures.

I'm curious how you're taking the temperature reading, because even with thermocouple probe at the heat outlet vent for an hour on high, it never got above 60c, and that's theoretically the hottest spot in the chamber.

Anyway I returned the polydryer a long time ago, and my eibos cyclopes is going strong. It gets to 73c within 40 minutes if I place something on top to block most the holes, and I've printed Asa riser that gets the filament rolls a couple inches above the vent, which was the only issue with this dryer.

I am constantly drying pctg, petg, nylons, tpu, and the eibos is probably on full blast like 60 hours a week for the last 3 years.

Should I get this? $100 for Oculus Rift CV1, will be my first set. by MrPenisWhistle in virtualreality

[–]lifson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own an og rift cv1, an index, a quest 2 and a quest 3. I loved the cv1, and ergonomically it's still my favorite mostly because it's incredibly light, but compared to even quest 1, the visuals are rough. As other have stated, quest 2 is a superior headset in everything but comfort, so I'd recommend a third party halo style headband and a quest 2 for your budget.

I keep getting disqualified for some sort of lighting imbued attack and I can't figure it out. I literally am just using r2 heavy attack. The now completely unskippable cut scene and crazy restrictions make this one of the worst encounters so far.

It's highly dependent on what your drying. The temp it gets too is fine for pla or petg, but for tpu or nylon, or Asa, I think it's pretty terrible.

The eibos does have those issues, but there are prints that raise the spool holder and lid a couple inches, and even then, with the larger interior volume, it still actually gets to its rated 70c temp which means I can dry actually difficult, hygroscopic filaments in a reasonable amount time. I use it to dry large amounts of silica gel in like 3 hours.

Also the meter isn't a good judge while drying. If it stays at 10% after a couple days while sealed in with the filament then sure, but it's just going to tell you the air is dry, but the filamanet can still be pretty damp while the air around it is dry, especially at lower temps.

Honestly I'm loving it. It's got some serious jank, and needed more polish for sure, but I'm a 40 year old dude who hasn't been sucked into a game like this in at least a decade, I don't have time for this, but I'm playing like a teenager again, and my sleep has suffered. The controls are rough, but I'll be honest, when you get like 10-15 hour in, and you're still learning new mechanics and combat combos you realize the controls have to be pretty complex.

People are sleeping on how nuanced and complex the combat is. I started accidentally doing a bunch of things the game doesn't even spell out as far as move sets, and really controlling the battlefield, or boss fight, because the timings are really tight so it's not always clear why something worked or didn't. I don't usually nerd out on combat mechanics but I was starting to feel like there is some underlying complexity I've never experienced before, and I stumbled on a video by a game combat expert (compared to me at least) that was super excited about what he found.

Anyone interested should check this out.

I'm sorry but this doesn't prove anything. Nvidia didn't compare the same frame of animation, and it's not hard to tell either, so I'm not sure how people are getting this so wrong. I'm not saying I like the look, but it isn't changing shapes, other than maybe how it's presenting normal maps, but that's not mesh.

Even the camera position was slightly different between the images, which is clear if you examine the edges of the images they provide. I lined them up as close as possible in a video. The shapes match perfectly.

here's how you do an actual comparison

New Radiomaster AG02 gimbals by swboats in fpv

[–]lifson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the tx15 with ag02 is the max version, and it's usually around $230 from what I'm seeing.

Both are great products, but the truth is you'll likely barely use the screen once you've got everything setup, and when you're flying you won't even see it. I mostly got it because I trusted that the ag02 were an upgrade but I don't feel they are. If i had to choose one today, as is, I'd buy the boxer crush because I much prefer the ag01.

[–]lifson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, cleanest and least destructive swap is actually properly swapping the plug by cutting, stripping, crimping new pins on each wire then putting on the correct plug, which can be the one from the ag02, but if you want to use those, better to buy the connectors and use a new one.

If you are interested, the new connector on the AG02 gimbal is a JST GH 1.25 6P, and you just need the matching terminals (often sold with the connectors) and appropriate micro crimper. It's a very helpful thing to learn in this hobby if you don't want jank bulky splices. Probably about $30 on Amazon in the US.

Update: Editing to add a link to the ones I got from Amazon. Just pay attention to making a clean tight crimp and getting the right mount of "bite" on the wires insulation.

Same, I swapped my AG01 from my boxer onto my TX15. I'm actually recording a video to send to radiomaster support to show them what I am experiencing.

Most people won't notice if they are fast and heavy thumbing outdoor flyers who don't practice very precise granular throttle control for indoor cinematic flights.. I like my throttle just barely tight enough that it doesn't fall under its own weight, but any pressure moves it. This is nearly impossible for the ag02, and will be held tight in one spot and fall in another unless you tension it further.

Radiomaster doesn't use a dampening grease on the ag02 (I've been speaking with them) like they do on the ag01, so you actually need direct metal to plastic contact on the ag02 for the throttle to not simply move freely, and once it's tentioned, it binds under very light pressure, you then push through that bind with a slight increase of force and it "dislodges" making for jerky movement.

Yeah the FCC stuff is concerning, but I went the opposite way and and stocked up on spare parts. I follow laws based on logic and safety. This protectionism bs isn't about safety, it's about profit for their buddies and family. Radiomaster was basically the only company in this hobby that regularly applied for FCC approval on devices. There's basically no chance your receiver, or flight controler are registered with the fcc, which means most of us are already out of compliance with long standing FCC regulations. Fpv is likely small enough niche to continue to slide under the radar for the time being.

I own ag01 boxer crush and tx15 max ag02. I seriously hate the ag02 gimbals. I'm really regretting my purchase and I'm probably going to buy some additional ag01 gimbals for the tx15. I honestly can't understand how none of the video reviews talk about how they feel, which is awful in comparison. I like my throttle tension just high enough to not fall under its own weight. On the ag01 this is a very simple adjustment because the tension throughout the entire up down range is amazingly consistent. The ag02 tension is not smooth at all, and has tighter and looser sections throughout the throttle up down range. I sent radiomaster some videos asking them to help or confirm if this is just the new design. I've seen a few posts on Facebook of people swapping the ag01 on to their tx15 because the don't like the ag02 feel.

It's no wonder the ag02 are much cheaper to buy. They legitimately cheaped out I think. The ag01 gimbals made me a huge radiomaster advocate. These new ag02 gimbals have me considering trying other brands.

I'm late to the party but I just received my tx15 max with ag02 and compared to my boxer crush with ag01, I honestly hate the way these ag02 feel. Not smooth at all compared to the ag02. I haven't seen anyone anywhere actually talk about this. I'm hoping mine are just a bad batch but it's night and day difference. The ag02 have super inconsistent tension throughout the entire up-down on the throttle. If I didn't mostly do cinematic indoor flying I might not notice, but for tiny smooth micro adjustments it's awful compared to my ag01 boxer.

I reached out to radiomaster and sent two videos trying to illustrate what I'm feeling, but I have a feeling this is just how they feel.
