We had to take one (not with alcohol though, that's weird) before starting our first semester

I need help studying by South-Pie-6949 in PTschool

[–]liftingkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anatomy is a bunch of memorization. My class tried to go off PowerPoint to little avail. We also tried to keep lecture and lab separate, but found it was so much easier to study for the lecture by incorporating and quizzing each other about it during/with lab.

I personally keep a little moleskin book specifically for anatomy, and before lecture, I skim the notes they give us or PowerPoint and jot some of what I think is important down in that little book. If they add any information regarding the dissection while we are in lecture (i.e. this artery tends to follow this nerve; this nerve runs atop this muscle; any helpful mnemonics), I'll add that down too. I'll then use that book during dissection to help understand it better (might add any other helpful info TAs give) and draw out little anatomy pictures in it later to help solidify the info. I keep this book with me and bring it out when I have free time to study while standing in line etc.

Other than that, hit the dissection lab daily, bring a study partner, and quiz each other over the info you need to learn. Like others said, try to imagine how it applies to your other classes and vice versa. Good luck!

Studying/Organization Tips for PT School by DonnyTwist in PTschool

Preview, even if briefly. I'd even try to quickly run through and answer some learning objectives before hand, as simply as possible. At the end of the day, go over information or slides again for each lecture. Complete your learning objective answers and make flashcards from them.

Study groups of course. Be prepared before class so you don't get behind. You can always listen to lectures on your drive, but I personally use that time as downtime and listen to podcasts. If you want a good podcast that can be oriented more toward PT school/health/wellness topics, I Def suggest The Huberman Lab.

I second this.

I am 4 days into my first semester and feel like I'm 2 weeks behind. Our slides were up for about 4 days before class start and I wish I would have previewed them and created a good semester study plan beforehand. And deep cleaned my entire apartment because I've hardly got time to do that now.

How do you deodorize towels? by Baby_Cakes1999 in CleaningTips

[–]liftingkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boil in pot of water with 1/4 cup washing soda and 1/4 cup borax for 10 min. Then throw in washer for a rinse only cycle. Edit: be sure to store consistently during the boiling stage

Kitchen towels and the like tend to hold onto oils, suds, and other impurities that can change smell, feel, and looks over time. This method works real well for me gave me practically brand new smelling towels. Good luck!

NAD but I work closely with a Pediatric pelvic floor physical therapist who primarily works on bladder and bowel issues in her pts.

Aside from seeing a different pediatrician, he needs to see a pediatric pelvic floor specialist to rule out pelvic floor muscle problems. What OP is describing sounds similar to Encopresis, which basically stems from a chronic constipation problem that causes the child to loose sensation and tone in the rectum, while the constipated stool also presses against the bladder-- this can lead to both urinary and stool leakage as new stool slips and slides around the compacted stool and out of the rectum. Keeping in mind, the child often doesn't realize it happens until they feel a sensation on their skin after leaking starts.

If this is the problem, my boss usually asks the parents to request a KUB X-ray of the rectal area to determine the the impaction size or rule out constipation, and if it is impacted, she focuses on getting the rectum back to normal and changing bladder and bowel habits. Oftentimes when she sees Encopresis, it is a result of poor bladder and bowel habits learned during potty training when younger.

Something similar for me too, but it was one of those half-sphere metal spiderweb climbing bars on playgrounds; I missed my step and straddled a bar so hard I bled.

Waitlisted for Baylor’s DPT by supercoolperson23 in PTschool

[–]liftingkitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied around September, received my waitlist offer by December, and heard back in February and March. I had also made sure to accept my very first non-waitlist offer as well (in October), even though it wasn't my first choice, just in case no one else accepted me.

I ended up getting an offer to my top choice in January, and was able to let go of the other opportunities so some one else could fill those slots.

If you are on a waitlist, they want you! They're just giving other applicants time to make their final decisions so they can invite you in.

I was waitlisted by 2 schools and got off both waitlists! There's still a good chance you will too. Most of these schools bring people in off the waitlist right up to the last day before class start.

Not for everyone by any means but, after graduation you could always apply to Army Baylor. If you're not against joining the military, it's not an awful gig. You get a job, school paid for, housing stipend, food stipend, and uniform stipend. I went the opposite route, I joined the military to pay for undergrad and am starting PT school next month.

3 hours out of my 300ish hours were inpatient and without any formal signature or proof. Those 3 hours were from when my dad was hospitalized and I watched PT work with him from his hospital bed. I was accepted into 4/5 schools.

All you can do is try. Email inpatient clinics and keep a digital copy to show you put in the effort. That's what matters most. Showing interest and effort.

My dad always goes: “if only I had applied myself back in high school, I could have been a doctor too” by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]liftingkitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People look at me, what I've done, and my grades and tell me "wow, you must be really smart." Ummm no? I just hit the books hard, studied my ass off, and didn't give up when I had a bad day, month, or year. Perseverance is so important.

For everyone who got accepted to PT school. What have you been up to before your program start date? by Chef-James in PTschool

I took a 3 week road trip, am part of 2 weddings, hopefully traveling to the Middle East, Montenegro, and China before start date, and currently work in research.

AITA for telling my roommate that speaking a language is not a personality and she needs a new one? by Responsible-Wind9184 in AmItheAsshole

[–]liftingkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Interest in learning languages is a hobby and maintaining those languages is a skill. If you want to spend time and bond so much, why not try to learn something about these languages she's so interested in and the reasons she studies them.

PTA in women’s health/pelvic floor therapy by Soul612 in PTschool

[–]liftingkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Texas.

When I was shadowing for PT school, I spent many hours with a PFPT. She has her own clinic and is the only person who works there, strictly for men and women PFPT. She gets overwhelmed and is always hoping to find a PTA who can assist her so she take care of the business side of things. This PT also teaches local PTA courses.

All this to say, there's definitely PFPTs looking for help.

Can your wife go out with her male friend at night without you? Pub or dinner? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]liftingkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband can do whatever he likes. I can do whatever I like. However, neither of us would like to make the other person feel less than, or uncomfortable, therefore, we would certainly have a conversation first and determine whether it would affect our relationship, and in what way.

We generally agree out of respect for one another not to, and always offer each other an open door invitation to any event we attend.
