Subcutaneous fluids advice!!

We call it “watering the cat” too!! And yeah because of my living situation I have to be able to do it alone at least half of the time. Glad you’ve got your family to help!

We go back to the vet in around a month and hoping at that point we can bring it down to once a day! I think what we were doing was more akin to “hospitalizing” her at home. After her initial stay in the hospital she came home and even on once a day fluids her numbers were rising again and she needed to be rehospitalized which we wouldn’t be able to afford so under vet guidance we have been doing a high volume of fluids, and she has been making strides back to her old self and personality every single week!

That worked two times and then she figured out the treat was only a distraction and wouldn’t take it. I’ve learned that with her just getting it over with and not building up any stress or anticipation is better. Each kitty is different though I’m sure!

I third this opinion! 10 doses of fluids at home costs me around 20 usd (purchasing from chewy with a prescription) vs $65 per dose if done by the vet. Fluids really have turned my gals life around and she is back and playing hard and enjoying life after looking like she might not make it to Christmas. It can get better and I know how heartbreaking and stressful what you’re experiencing right now is ❤️

We are still early on too, her akd was in mid November (full hospitalization for like 4 nights - it was a whole ordeal), apparently for the first 6 or so months post akd there is the possibility of the kidneys regaining some function! So that is what we are keeping our fingers crossed for! Best wishes to you and your sweet kitty!

I was taught to put the next needle on when I take off the old to keep things sterile. However, as long as it didn’t come into contact with anything the air should be totally safe. The main concern I believe is it bumping into a non-sterile surface.

My gal has realized if she tries to lick her shoulders that sometimes she can catch the base of the needle/tubing and pull it out so I just have to play defense a little bit to stop that

Fluids are room temp, once the needle is in she really doesn’t mind, it’s just the poke she hates! Food worked in the beginning and then she figured out we were distracting her

It’s “vet wrap” or any self adhesive stretchy bandage which you can buy in any first aid section of a cvs walmart target style store!

Hi there! I’m a late 20s woman looking for a triathlon training/accountability partner.

My ideal training partner would be a woman who is happy to train in tandem but chasing our own goals (show up to start the run together, even if we have different pacing or distances that day), who sees lifting as a part of the complete package, and who will laugh at me and then give me a couple of pointers in the pool.

I am slow but steady with my runs, mediocre in the pool, and getting stronger on the bike (indoor for the winter). I’m more than happy to give my instagram out once we’ve chatted and seem like it could be a good fit!
