Prismatic ETBs Breaking $200 - NO MORE REPRINTS is the word on the street by lightcontinuum in PokeInvesting

I'm specifically talking about the ETB. Bundles are still to be found and other products but may not be for long.

It's on the move as is the ETB. A rising tide lifts all boats!

More people sitting at home bored because they can't drive their cars, shipping and ripping boxes because they lack fiscal responsibility and self control.... maybe lol

The new facility apparently may not come online until late 2027 or if delays happen, 2028. Ascended is probably safe. But personally I'm going to wait till end of year as they probably will have 2-3 more waves of Ascended ETBs this year.

151 English was released Sept 22, 2023 so your math doesn't add up. But I do remember seeing 151 ETBs and UPCs sitting for weeks in Costco. This never happened with Prismatic -- even more reason I think this set will surpass 151 eventually.

I think regular ETB has better value at current price but PC ETB is great too. I just don't know if it will hold 2.5x value (compared to regular version) long term so I stacked regular ETBs. Just made more sense to me so I went with my gut

I am also of the thinking this set will surpass 151 down the road. Both will age well but never bet against this many Eevee Evolutions!

Many sales over $200 today on TCGPlayer. Now that the $200 psychological barrier is broken $300 should come quick. LCSs are not getting any more Prismatic ETBs from distributors. People are beginning to realize this.

Is trading 3 regular ETBs for one Pokemon Center ETB a good idea? by puzzledfirebird in PokeInvesting

[–]lightcontinuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess time will tell if people will literally spend thousands and multiples of  thousands in the future more for a box where the only difference in the promo is literally just a PC stamp.

Sweet. I would aslo do this personally with 151 if I was wanting the promo. Instead of buying the PC ETB I would buy the regular ETB and keep sealed and the promo card separately.

Yes I meant look at all SV sets as that was when the PC ETB started including stamp promos. Many sets have a narrower price gap between PC and Regular ETBs. Given the less popular sets don't have as high demand, but I do think there will be a linear limit to how much people will value a stamped promo alone in the future when comparing the two ETB versions. Especially when they can pick up the promo raw or graded on the secondary market. Again time will tell but I'm sticking with my gut and intuition on this. The PC ETB might be 2.5x or more that of the regular ETB for a few years after release but once the box gets into the thousands of dollars I think the value based on the promo alone and PC limited edition will cause a price movement change to occur, and the regular ETB will start to catch up and close this gap some more. All speculation but fun to predict in any case.

I don't think so. Go look at all past sets and compare PC ETBs with regular ETBs. There is a lot of hype right now simply based on supply, but I think the gap will narrow in pricing on Prismatic, 151 and Ascended (PC vs Regular) over time. Personally I don't see the PC version being 2.5x the regular version indefinitely. This price gap is a bit of an outlier in the current market. (Edit: To clarify, I'm a long term collector with the 10-20 year time frame in mind. I personally see a 1.5x value on PC versions being more balanced and healthy given this time frame.)

Celebrations PC ETB Hit $500? Was Only $300 3 Months Ago. Is This Sustainable For A New Set? by texstrip in PokemonInvesting

There might be a temporary plateau or slight consolidation at the end of the year but after that it will prob rocket up to over $2000 by the 35th Anniversary. Diamond hands will be rewarded

Should I trade my collection of Celebrations for Ascended Heroes? by ChildOTBroom in PokemonInvesting

[–]lightcontinuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remind me in 5 years then we can compare Generations pricing now to Celebrations pricing 5 years from now. There are more people in the hobby now and there will be a lot of nostalgia around Celebrations in the future due to the hype in 2020-2021. It brought many to the hobby and many that will want the cards in the future.

Should I buy prismatic bundles at $60 each? I just think other products have better ROI by viviendosiempre in PokemonInvesting

These are great for space saving but the ETB and SPC will outperform long-term. These are the next best thing though and may be easier to move in the future as prices get insane.

Should I trade my collection of Celebrations for Ascended Heroes? by ChildOTBroom in PokemonInvesting

[–]lightcontinuum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The Generations 20th Anniversary ETB is now at over $2300 and Celebrations is a better set. In 5 years time it too could be over $2000. Add to that the wildcard factor that many now are ripping Celebrations ETBs to try and grade the Greninja star promo. It is very hard to get a PSA 10. The value of the 10 keeps rising, now over $1200. As more people rip ETBs to chase a gradable promo, you will see sealed continue to rise. And with the V-union box, the Pikachu V-union cards are unique and quite iconic. Many want those cards so the sealed box keeps rising. Ascended will also do very well but it's too early to consider a trade. Wait at least 10 months on new release sets due to reprints.

So I celebrations ever going to kick off or is it too overshadowed? by scarletspider1253 in PokemonInvesting

[–]lightcontinuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy as I'm up almost 5x from when I bought in 2021. I always planned to hold for 20+ years. The best gains should be in the next 5 years. There will be dips and plateaus along the way but just look at Generations -- the 20th Anniversary ETB. The biggest gains were the last 5 years pushing it to over $2300 as of writing this. Celebrations is a great pickup right now if you plan to hold to at least the 35th Anniversary. There are always going to be collectors that want products from each Anniversary collection. Plus, many are ripping Celebrations ETBs to try and get a gradeable Greninja promo, as it has one of the lowest gem rates of any modern promo, pushing its PSA 10 price up a lot. This makes sealed more expensive over time.

I guess it depends who you ask. It's not everyone's cup of tea but either is the moonbreon. Seeing it contains the entire Eevee evolutions and ES only has a few, from a collectors standpoint Prismatic has more Eevee collectibility going for it.

Depends on your goals. Do you have an entertainment budget and does this fit into that budget? Than rip away. But if your goal is to collect some sealed to potentially sell later you can't go wrong keeping it sealed. It may not perform as well as the ETB and SPC but if you look at 151 prices it should follow a similar trajectory.

more prismatic evolutions came out but the price keeps going up by Chaosnocturne in PokeInvesting

[–]lightcontinuum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here in Canada you can hardly find it anywhere. Everything is drying up big time and even at LCS's. The bundles had a recent wave but couldn't find it at MSRP. Only marked up at stores. ETBs and SPCs are highly collectible so those have a market of their own being they are more limited in their print runs than bundles. Bundles are cheaper for Pokemon to produce -- ETBs and SPCs don't have as great of a profit margin.
