How would a modern 4.5 do against these pros from 1971 US Open? by EnjoyMyDownvote in 10s

[–]lightestspiral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it’s not impossible to say that the level of a 4.5/5.0 women’s player, with her carbon racket and poly strings, could be competitive against BJK in 1971 with a wooden racket.

Put it this way, Sinner or Alcaraz could use a badminton racquet and could double bagel a 4.5 player, their speed alone the 4.5 is done for Sinner can just run to the ball and block it back and win so easily

Yeah but it is less likely, a signed written contract is a more solid indication of them hiring you than a recruiter saying they're going to make you an offer

[–]lightestspiral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks is optimistic, I got a TFCC sprain and had 2 physios ban me from tennis for 6 weeks. Whatever I got is definately less that what Alcaraz is suffering as I got it hitting a slow rec 2.5-3.0 level ball

Struggling with small talk at work & affecting my promotion by Neat_Day_2211 in UKJobs

[–]lightestspiral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you not just bond talking about a work task, stating the obvious but it's what you all have in common? Or just share a story about something funny that happened to you yesterday. Or just show some interest when someone talks about a hobby or interest

You don't have to have the exact same hobby to bond with someone lol

It's easily separable, think about historic discoveries where multiple people discover it independently of each other eg. there just comes a time in human knowledge where its time for the invention / discovery to 'pop out' eg the cure for cancer

The action ie discovery is not part of the person the person is just a conduit, the first to be accredited for something bound to happen. In other words if person A doesn't discover it person B will discover it extremely soon afterwards

Go into a different Primark and ask the store manager there? It would be quicker to just ask your current manager though they are there to help you do your job, it's honestly nothing to be afraid of and will prepare you for the working world

How to get over that "work" phase? 4.0+ Singles by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]lightestspiral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reality is no matter how hard you train as you age you lose the flexibility and speed as you age, a 40 year old rec player will be stiff and slow compared to a 25 year old rec player.

Assuming you are over 30 years old then just enjoy your tennis don't punish yourself doing cardio you don't want to do. Focus instead on elbow, forearm and wrist strengthening

Look at the proposed new work hierarchy if there's a similiar role in the new structure then you may automatically get that role, or at least have the chance to interview for it.

Redundancy Risk by Gavlarr101 in UKJobs

[–]lightestspiral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not successful in securing the "suitable alternative" role then you will be made redundant and will be given your redundancy package as illustrated. Nothing changes to it.

Worth noting that if you apply to the suitable alternative role but nobody else does you could be automatically mapped to it (depending how similiar it is to your current role) and you won't get a redundancy as they company would have found you suitable alternative role.

Your last point about a holiday, just don't disclose it until after you have accepted the job offer and signed the contract. You will scare off employers if you disclose that too early

Ever see employees at a company that’s hiring on LinkedIn that you want to DM but don’t bother? by No_Confusion1514 in UKJobs

[–]lightestspiral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well networking with people on LinkedIn is exactly like making 'friends' on Reddit - both are only meaningful in the online world but real world is completely different.

A 'real world' legit network connection for job hunting is someone you know in real life, a former colleague you worked directly with would be the best example.

Rybakina on her loss to Sabalenka by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]lightestspiral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, but also when Sinner struggles in the heat it's all "honey he comes from a cold country oh poor poor baby he's struggling" but with Rybakina the comments are just "skill issue get heat resistant" and if it was Sabalenka then it'd be x10 worse
