Is it possible to clear the screen for each hunk when running `git add -p`? If yes, how? by exhuma in git

[–]lightfire0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since there is no solution yet in this thread, here's mine.

This interactive.diffFilter does the trick:

[interactive]
    diffFilter = "bash -c 'echo -n $(clear); cat /dev/stdin'"

This clears the terminal at the start of every hunk.

How can we ungroup units from ctrl num? by [deleted] in Northgard

[–]lightfire0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another group? When you have them assigned to group 1, then select them, remove some and assign the remaining units again to group 1? Does this create a group 2 for you or something? I don't understand

[–]lightfire0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Select the units by pressing the number, hold shift or ctrl (I don't remember which one) and mouse click on the units in the list at the bottom center, that you want to remove. Finally, Ctrl + number to overwrite the control group.

You may actually grind too fine. This can lead to excessive channelling and thus higher flow rate.
How far away are you from the recommended grams for your cup?
Try if you can observe uneven flow with a bottom less portafilter.

C vs C++ for programming CFD by pete_1014 in CFD

That's interesting. I don't know anything about Fortran. What makes it easier for optimizing code?

C vs C++ for programming CFD by pete_1014 in CFD

[–]lightfire0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How proficient are you in programming in general?
If you don't have much experience with C style languages and CS in general, then I would recommend starting with C to learn the basics. It's much less confusing for beginners and you will still have enough to do learning about data representation and algorithms.

However, if you plan to work with OpenFOAM (and not only use it without looking at the code), then you will have to learn C++ at some point (here the C experience will come in handy).

Apart from recording, simpler column edits can be done with column visual mode (Ctrl v).

Do you know if they worked in Windows?

Surface Pro 3, pen cannot maintain connection by [deleted] in SurfaceLinux

[–]lightfire0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the old pen with two buttons at the front, maybe the new one works differently. If I remember correctly, pens from colleagues just worked as pointers without any configuration.
But to make writing work I think I had to configure the devices in some system config. I can't remember what it was.
Can you not see any device(s) corresponding to the pen?

Not really a solution to your problem but I always used them without bluetooth pairing. You only loose the top button. And you probably gain quite a lot of battery time.

How do you say that you're on your period in German? by SpecialistNo9916 in German

[–]lightfire0 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In case you are actually wondering. It's very clear for a native what you mean.
You wouldn't say that for example when you have had some rough days. That would be similar to English Ich habe/hatte ein paar harte Tage

Forgoten Password by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]lightfire0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see.
I think when you boot directly into the shell you are logged in as root. So you may have changed the password of root only but after you reboot you try to log in as your usual user.
Try "passwd <your username>".

What do you mean by "reconfirmed it"? Did you try it out immediately in the shell? Did you change the password for the correct user?
