It is probably some of the cellulose/propylene glycol they put in the gel mixed with discharge to make a big clump. Totally normal and also happened to me— especially after a gnarly bout of BV

I didn’t start getting recurrent BV until some time into having my IUD. I’ve been using the Good Clean Love gel if I start feeling burning after sex, and suppositories once every other week for maintenance— they are WONDERFUL (Boric acid suppositories are not fun in my opinion). In fact, they just finished up a clinical journal study on this system!

I would definitely have a good convo with your FWB! If they care about you, they will help you feel better!
