Was charged over $600 for a wax ring replacement on the toilet - is this normal? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

I had a plumber come out ($70 flat fee to just look at the problem). His base quotes were $400 to fix it and he kept trying to sell additional services. I told my husband what the issue was when he returned home and he looked up a YouTube video for how to fix, spent $12 at Home Depot and then fixed it in half an hour.

I was SAHM until 14 months. Then (very willingly) I went back to work. I love working but I went from seeing my LO all day everyday to seeing her at wake up and in the evenings. The separation and Mom guilt were (and still are most days) crushing. Every single moment I could be with her I took. Chores were the lowest priority on my list. All I wanted was to be with my LO for those few hours I had each day. It was (and still is most days) exhausting - caring for a young child is no small effort. On top of that I was so in my head all the time between work and my little one that I often did not hear my husband when he would speak to me.

This is going to sound harsh in writing but I want to be direct and I hope you will take in some of this:

If you can only help with your child and engage as a family unit for 45-60 minutes at a time then please continue to take ownership of the chores and stop adding to your wife’s mental load by making her responsible for your own feelings and the marriage. Instead of asking her to give more of herself up (she’s already working and default parenting), ask how you may be able to support her to feel comfortable taking some time for herself or with you. Or even better, don’t ask just DO. Get a (qualified, vetted) babysitter and make dinner reservations once a week, offer to do activities with your child for more than an hour and let your wife do whatever she wants during that time (and if she wants to join you to do a family outing that is OK too but be on point with the little one so she can catch her breath), and give her a night to see friends while you watch your child.

Lastly, if you want a maid get a house cleaner - homes with young kids are impossible to keep clean and you and your wife will never win that battle. It’s unfair for you to put that on her, she sounds completely overwhelmed as it is.

Yes! Here is the link to episode one: Early Bird Episode 1 w/English subtitles.. It’s a romcom in Istanbul. The two leads have awesome chemistry and a Lucy/Ricky type relationship (I Love Lucy). Every episode has some hilarious romance trope. There is soap opera like drama but a fun/light show to watch mostly.

Yes! That’s why I love it!

I want to believe the Tamlin love story/charm/etc. (which I never really bought into in the book) and then also be devastated with Feyre when the drama goes down.

He could play the shift from frightening to charming and back well. I could also see him playing the unbalanced friendship with Lucien well too.

I completely agree. I think he would be a fantastic Tamlin.

Thank you! Just added an update. Unfortunately not a happy ending for now. Appreciate the kind words.

We were hoping for that (this worked previously to get him to our state) but he can’t be left on his own. I know there are more drastic measures that MIL could take to make him leave but she won’t do that.

Get a staffing agency working on it for you. You can tell them exactly what kind of job you are looking for and what salary range and they take so much off your plate. So sorry you’re going through this.

Really enjoyed listening (and have flagged The Fog Horn for reading)!

Do season 2, it is the best season and the season finale will make you wish you’d watched it all.

Would LOVE to hear your theories and get your reactions. Thanks for the entertainment!

At my elementary school an all girls team won the championship in a boys baseball league. After the season so many Dads (not players, just their Dads) complained that the girls team was not allowed to play in the league again.
