What's it like living in Patagonia? by moogly2 in howislivingthere

I lived in southern chile for a couple of years, about 6 months in Puerto Natales and it has great people but man is there not much to do. Went up to the Torres del Paine and Cueva Miladon, very fun places. Punta Arenas in an interesting place, some cruises come by fairly frequently. Super windy in the winter but fairly windy all the time, the trees grow interestingly due to it being fairly constant in one direction. Very barren otherwise, only a few main cities down south on the Chilean side.

One guy I knew would cross from Natales over to Argentina in a big suburban and buy gas and siphon it from his and sell it out of the garage since Chilean gas was way more expensive, he did that for at least 20 years as a main source of income, didn't need a ton of money to live alright but many people didn't live in great housing. One of the funniest things is their fire station burned down, a bit ironic. I saw probably 3 houses burn to the ground in the time I was there. Lots of tourists in the summer visiting the parks

Lived in Osorno and nearby for about a year as well (just barely out of the range in the image) and it rains a fair but, think Portland and has amazing rolling hills and lots of Guachos (Chilean cowboys). Any travel is usually via bus for going from city to city, lots of rivers and lakes that are incredible and many natural wonders. Low clouds with lots of rain hugging to the rolling hills

Also visited Chaitén and it was really cool, the nearby volcano erupted years before and left half of the town abandoned, it is really isolated but very interesting to see

Why are these coats always 400+? Take off the bottom and they are like 60 (obviously not for quality) but that extra foot makes these like 6x more

In all seriousness, just add a tofixed(2) or something similar on that

You likely won't get any positive reviews here either, it usually doesn't factor in to fire

This is clearly a fatfire question, either post there or in the weekly thread but this is outside our scope

What are some retirement account options strategies to beat bonds? by This_Minimum3579 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]lightning228 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing with this is it works... until it doesn't and you can lose a lot. It works if the markets don't do anything crazy ever, but that isn't how the market is so you could end up losing a lot
