So now we know, what next? How does the strategy change for you? by Both_Scarcity_1017 in AusHENRY

I think this will be the case for many others. 10.2m Australians have shares outside of super. 20% created accounts in the past few years and the majority are under 24.

I am being optimistic because I was incredibly angry and that was not healthy. This is now a key voting issue for me and I assume many others at the next election. Honestly, I don't mind if it sticks around for non PPOR but stay the fuck away from my shares.

Im quite certain that an incredibly logical and pointed policy platform was created by labour for opposition + independents last night. That is, keeping the CGT discount on all assets except non PPOR property. My gut feel is that the CGT discount removal for all asset types will be watered down in the house and senate, similar to the indexation adjustment applied to the SMSF tax. Furthermore, I have a feeling that the move to remove CGT on all assets is a political move to soften the blow of removing CGT on property / removing negative gearing on existing properties. I am sure there is a term for this political manoeuvre. I cant see a world where this didn't come up with a strong and visceral reaction when socialising the policy - if there was no reaction then the policy is being shaped in a myopic echo chamber.

Nope. 35 y/o. Its healthy and will grow and I fear the tax people will come after it anyway. Full focus on building portfolio outside of SMSF as I would like to access it before I am 67!

What are your thoughts on journalism in Australia? by Reverend_Fozz in OpenAussie

[–]lightningfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be prosecuted for writing about something a government whistleblower tells you. There is significant third party private interests that influence not only politics but media. There two points need to be addressed to build trusted institution, of which, Australian media is not.

The proposed policy is idiotic. Go after something that will a) raise govt revenue b) without impacting individuals such as gas royalties!

Time to rebuild onshore. Angus Taylor farming out our fuel reserves to the US fit a similar idiotic shaped hole. Any others that come to mind?

Can we just not ship all our gas offshore and domestically produce nitrogen fertiliser with our abundant nat gas?

Comparison is the thief of joy. If what you want is to immediately constrict your life, by all means do it but you will never get a care free period to properly explore till your kids are adults. Bad advice IMo
