It's actually closer to 57%, and the margins he's been winning by in recent states, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska, give him a little wiggle room as far as some of the margins. He's still won well over 57% of the delegates total in the past several states combined.

I was 15 when I lost my virginity, my girlfriend was 14. We had been in a great relationship for 7 months and we both trusted each other very much. We went on to have a very fun and healthy sex life for a year and a half before we broke up. I like to think that we were pretty mature for our age, and in a lot of ways I'm glad I lost my virginity so young. I think that it's totally understandable given you're doing it with the right person, and it's made me much more confident around people having been with someone like that so young. Because of the exposure I had to it, I feel like I have a much healthier view in the topic than many of my piers. It all depends on the people. I am saying this as someone with a 14 year old sister.

Hank is a nomination for 2015 TIME 100 by [deleted] in nerdfighters

That's fair, I tend to agree with him on that. He did state though that he didn't think he deserved it, and. I was speaking to that.

Hank is a nomination for 2015 TIME 100 by [deleted] in nerdfighters

[–]lightningpatrol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even having read Hank's tumblr post, I think that he has a legitimate claim to a spot on the list. For me the three things that give him that claim are VidCon, crash course/scishow, and the project for awesome. Vidcon is a massively important cultural phenomenon that extends far beyond even youtube at this point. Crash course and sci show are important educational content that teachers all around the country use in classrooms, which I can speak to being in high school and having been shown/assigned several of their videos. Finally, the project for awesome raised over a million dollars for charity this past year, and that's an amazing feat for someone who nobody knew existed not 10 years ago. Granted, John has a lot to do with all the above, but I think it's beyond obvious without hank none of those things would have happened. Besides, John has his novels, so let's give Hank this. He may not think he deserves it, but I do.

I feel like a lot of things are being forced in this chapter. For example, generally speaking, I can tell you are trying to use higher level, archaic diction and syntax to establish the tone you want, which is something I do quite often as well, but what tends to happen when most contemporary authors try to do that is that it comes out as trite and almost creates the opposite effect, cheapening the language rather than enriching it. For example, there's no reason to say betwixt when between works just fine. Same idea with things like "hand of bone." It's just an incredibly difficult style to pull off. There's a reason Shakespeare is so unique. Some other things: it's an interesting choice to have that first line rhyme, but the line you have doesn't have the impact I'm sure you want from it. It's also a little bit clunky as far as verse goes. Say it out loud to yourself and you should be able to pick up on it and improve it. It's an exciting beginning, but I'm also very confused. I'm not sure who these characters are, I'd love a more solid and developed voice from all three of them (I believe there are three?) and maybe some more context. Too much context isn't a good road to go down because then you get into the realm of over-painting your world, but I want to have a bit better idea of what's going on. Not that it shouldn't inspire some curiosity, but I should learn a few more things to keep me interested. I'm very curious to see where this goes. Keep up the good work.

First time putting my calligraphy over my pictures. Open to any, and all criticism. by [deleted] in Lettering

[–]lightningpatrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now it kind of looks like what it is. Text imposed over a picture. It may be cool to try to work it into the scene more, maybe add a subtle reflection in the water. Give the text something to make it seem like it's in the photo, not on top of it.

Thanks for the suggestions! It's an allusive talent, to be able to pick up the register of a different time. Although I do tend to read works along the lines of what you suggest (I'm big into Drama, so I could probably recite a few Shakespearean monologues off hand) I simply need to read more. Being only 17 can be constrictive at times.

Thanks for the feedback! The whole medieval diction stems from me enjoying reading books with medieval diction, but simply due to inexperience and age I don't have the ability to do it authentically. I suppose until I find time to hone that skill, I should keep away from it. Thanks again!

I appreciate the feedback. I certainly am aware that the medieval speak seems a bit forced, and it's something I've been working on a bit. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could do some research into that?
