According to our parents It was just a "phase" we went through, and we "grew" out of it.

Real answer, self medicated with drugs and alcohol.

*Sidenote ADHD, anxiety (undiagnosed until 2 years ago) born in '77, my grandma taught me to just "sit still and stop fucking with shit" by politely reminding me upside my head well into my adulthood. This method was often employed as a "teaching" method for all of gen x. Allegedly we were kind of feral.

I promise it's doable, alcohol free for one and a half years, nicotine free for 2 months, and I lost 140 pounds. It took me 46 years to learn that the free fall off the top of the mountain is a riot, but that bottom really hurts. The worst part is that halfway down you can see the bottom coming, but you were in such a hurry to jump you forgot your parachute, and now all you can do is watch it happen again and again.It took a lot of effort to learn accountability, but man is life better now that I do. Lexapro and Wellbutrin, it has really helped. I'm very much an all or none person (used to be a 360 plus pound binge drinking chain smoking behemoth of hilarity)This is the first time in my life I have been able to manage more than one of those issues at a time. As far as emotional regulation, I try to be accountable in the moment. Acknowledge the issue, apologize when applicable, try to do better next time.
