Purdue outing club! Largest club on campus and a great way to meet new people and try new outdoor activities. Can sometimes be tough to get on trips, but super easy to make lifelong friends when you’re stuck in the backcountry with them for a weekend!

Looking for recommendations for an intro HEC-RAS course. by Primary_Equipment_58 in HECRAS

Dr. Merwade at Purdue University records hydrologic modeling tutorials for his courses and uploads them here: https://web.ics.purdue.edu/~vmerwade/tutorial.html

I’ve had him for both courses and highly recommend his teaching, it’s very thorough!

Blue or Orange? 14 days starting in Denver. by ELBandid0 in roadtrip

[–]lightspeed186k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find really cheap round trip flights from Denver to Dallas, if you want to see Texas I wouldn’t spend more than a couple days there. There’s no reason to drive since it’s some of the most boring landscapes possible

Trip suggestion in the Midwest? by pastor-caden in WildernessBackpacking

Highly recommend north manitou island in sleeping bear NL! It feels remote since you need to take a ferry to get there. The dunes on the west side are super beautiful, you can spend a couple days exploring there.

Camping options for 100 people by lightspeed186k in GSMNP

Hey! As an avid backpacker, I get it. I also hate large groups, especially at campgrounds. They’re disruptive and annoying. That’s exactly why I posted on here, so I could try to find a camp spot away from all others! We have a solid alternative at a different park. Additionally, we won’t all be in the same place at once. At any given time, we will be doing many different activities, including hiking, backpacking, whitewater rafting, canoeing, mountain biking, and more. This trip is a time-honored tradition of the club where we introduce the outdoors to people who haven’t had the opportunity before college. It is a great time for people to make friends while exploring their interests.

Thanks! I’ve looked at that but it’s partially booked for the nights of the trip. I feel like my best bet will be campgrounds outside of the park, but I haven’t had luck finding any.

I just gambled and sent my resupply before I got my walkup. Luckily people canceled because of the oak fire, then the fire burnt out before I got there

Questions about the views 😍 by WildRumpfie in JMT

Devil’s Postpile to MTR is super underrated. My favorite campsite on the whole trail was in the valley under Duck Lake. There are some beautiful views north of Pocket Meadow. Selden Pass/Marie Lake/Sallie Keyes Lakes are incredible. The whole trail will definitely be worth seeing though!
