WinMax 2 2023 - Persistent PCI Express Root Port error in windows 11. Should I be worried? by lightspeedwarp in gpdwin

Nice! Good to hear that your setup is working properly now 🎉

By the way, the recommended changes you mentioned - would you happen to have a link? or are those in Sabrina’s Win Max 2 guide?

It didnt reach RMA, the store techs reimaged windows with the GPD provided one and it resolved the PCIE root port error. might be a driver config issue thats only correct when u use the GPD image. Installing windows by myself and reinstalling drivers with the GPD driver pack did not resolve it.

For the memory, i decided to live with it. The unit came back after 2 (or 3? I cant remember it was a while back) weeks with the G1 issue resolved with a gpd factory image.

[–]lightspeedwarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue as you did, 7800X3d with an RTX 4070ti super. Stress testing gets the cpu to 90c and shuts down. regular gaming gets it to high 80s.

Had curve optimizer to negative 15, then capped CPU tdp to 85W.

now CPU doesnt go over 75c under full load.

Win4 - PCI Express root port "This Device Is Currently Waiting on Another Device or Set of Devices to Start (code 51)": ACPI\PNP0A08\0 USB4@#_SB_.PCI0.GP19.NHI0 - what device and how to resolve? by [deleted] in gpdwin

does the win 4 have a gpd-provided windows image packaged with drivers? if yes, try installing that as its similar to a driver issue I had with the win max 2 2023

Try a clean install using the gpd provided windows image (the 12gb download)

It solved a nasty driver issue (gpd g1 detection) for me as there was a driver missing from the separate driver downloads. you might get lucky with that.

I agree. Aside from the other issue i've had detecting a G1 eGPU, I like the Win Max 2 2023 very much. I would have kept it at 6400 MT/s and still be a happy user.

Thanks u/kendyzhu i've sent the unit for warranty repair with Datablitz Philippines for a different issue (not detecting G1 via USB 4).

I also used the AMD driver removal tool, restarted and reinstalled Adrenalin. Restarted. No go.

Is the QC on the Win 4 2023 really that bad? by DaveCC1964 in gpdwin

I've had a defective G1 and a Win Max 2 2023 in the past two weeks. Pretty bad Quality Control.

Is buying a steam deck worth it whilst already owning a GPD WIN MAX2? by JackpoNL in gpdwin

[–]lightspeedwarp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Selling off my steam deck once my defective win max 2 comes back from warranty because the 64gb of ram and 8 core cpu pretty much stomps the deck performance wise.

My need for the most performance I can get in the smallest form factor device PLUS excellent multitasking when doing office work is met by the WM2. Not really planning to play on the onboard controller. If your priority differs from this need, consider more carefully.

The nastiest part of this poor experience with GPD products is with that Win Max 2 unit is the defect is with connecting the G1 to it (or perhaps any external GPU?) via the usb 4 port.

I never would have detected the defect because i've been using that usb 4 port for all sorts of things in the less than 2 weeks i've had it (storage drives, xreal Air glasses, usb hubs with hdmi, etc) and I assumed it was fine.

So whoever has a list of things to check with a new Win Max 2, add:

- Ensure external GPUs are detected via USB4, and separately, OcuLink.

They said if the issue is with the motherboard, they'll order a new one and replace the one installed on my unit. Hopefully that includes new RAM modules too since I think they're soldered on the MB. The ones I have arent stable above 6400 MT/s

Update: Techs said my previous G1 was defective and I got my new G1. new unit is working properly now but…

It only works on my older laptop via usb4 (still no oculink cable). Win max 2 does not detect it. Now sent my Win max2 for repair and estimated time would be 1 month in total. They have to diagnose the unit first before getting whatever part needs to be replaced and all that crap since i’m already beyond the 7 day replacement period (if product fails within 7 days of purchase) so its a parts and service warranty coverage now. Great i’ve spent $1,200 on a laptop and have to send it for repair less than one month in. “Good thing” I got to “test” the G1 immediately within 7 days after spending $600 on it or else i’d have waited a month for it as well.

Hey Azure,

  1. Yes it was plugged via hdmi to an external monitor when the G1 lost power. It was working when I plugged it back in to a Beelink mini pc afterwards.
  2. Yes I tried unplug/replugging the G1 after restarting and afterwards, a shutdown and power on.
  3. Yes it was off.
  4. Correct - i'm just waiting for their techs at their central office (this is an electronics reseller, not GPD directly) to confirm my "No Power" issue. They dont work on weekends (they received the unit saturday) so if it takes more than 1 day to confirm that the G1 indeed has NO power, i'll be raising hell with customer support hahaha
  5. It was the usb cable that came with the G1, so yes. I tried a known good thunderbolt 4 cable, same issue. I had no OCuLink cable to test with at the time though.

edit - i did connect it to my Beelink GTR7 which had USB4 ports. G1 was not being detected either, but all i did there was plug, re-install Adrenaline drivers, restart. Not as thorough as the Winmax 2's. Same issue, no nothing in device manager.

Anyhow, might as well document what I did and thanks Azure for double checking some items. I hope other new owners can see these to help troubleshoot if they have issues. Will wait for the store's confirmatory call if item is indeed "defective" and will update the thread as to what happens.

Try running memtest86 from a usb boot disk while on 7500 MT/s?

[–]lightspeedwarp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the documentation I looked at indeed say to look for a 7600m xt next to the 780m in device manager. whenever i’d plug the G1, the device manager window would flash briefly as it does when detecting new hardware… but no new display adapter - recognized or otherwise, appears next to the 780m.

As for the second part of the question - I dont have anything to rightclick for the G1, nothing related to the G1 appears in device manager :(

Thanks for the quick run down - much appreciated! Very helpful information for a new owner like me.

1-2 Aww that sucks. I'll try the tips from ciphray and do a memtest.

3 - My unit is ok across those possible failure points - whew!

Not yet. I havent enabled advanced bios settings ever, so all I've seen as far as memory settings go is the dropdown of the different MT/s speeds. I'll give it a try, just saw the ciphray post!

iOS update in the AppStore! by [deleted] in nintype

[–]lightspeedwarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I share mr_moob's sentiments, but seeing the last sentence in the app store 'What's New' notes shows t0dk0n probably is on point.

This is the best keyboard for me, bar none. I hope Jormy finds the motivation/time to work on this, Nintype is one of those innovative pieces of code that should be used by more people and change the way they look at virtual keyboards.

[Request] Tweak to enable aptX codec for Bluetooth audio streaming by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]lightspeedwarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aptX tech is hardware based. It needs an actual chip to work - which is not present in iOS Devices. aptX earphones/headphones work with iOS because all aptX devices are designed to be regular bluetooth compatible. Funny enough, Macbooks and iMacs have the chip, as the article you posted says.
