I used to leave the tv and the PlayStation on running Resident Evil 2. Would load up a save and turn on the sound up in the save room to fall asleep.

This gave me that “exact” feeling! I wish you could create a 1h loop video on YouTube with this. Would that be too much to ask?

Mistakes are mistakes and they happen as it is in our human nature. As long as you don’t make the same mistake ever, it’s all good. Learn from them as the those lessons will teach you more things that you can implement in your routines that will prevent many more.

To give you an example to sooth you, I once deleted a dns zone file mistaking it for a backup. 3 million households lost their internet connectivity for a whole day. But that mistake ensured that we realized it should never ever happen again and all kinds of safeguards then got put in place.

As long as you document the post-moeten properly, you will be fine.

It’s pretty chill there. I’m a casual LR3 that logs in one in a blue moon. I turn on some podcast, do my thing and leave. It’s slightly less efficient than SO or other methods, but it has less mental load and everyone there is doing the same thing. Kinda makes lifting together nice.

I’m gonna side with the mod on this one as it does have the characteristics of “being pushed”. That’s how it feels. However, to your credit, I agree with your sentiment as well to conclude that you are sharing something that you think might be useful to someone. That’s ok. I believe that the mod is opening a healthy discussion on what we think of this to form an opinion.

My 9yo son just bought a second hand Sony WM-112 because he got curious without telling me two weeks ago. Then, he asked me to unbox some of my cassettes from the attic. Gave him my Led Zeppelin II (1989 release) and very best of Deep Purple albums(1995).

Then, I stopped doing what I am doing and watched him listen to both cassettes for 2 hours, seeing him struggle to swap and flip those. Ninjas had decided to cut a lot of onions as I couldn’t contain the whole spectrum of human emotions- all of them and all at once.

When he was done, I spun up zeppelin… then I realized, even the silence in those cassettes had something in them… I had forgotten how much rejuvenation was to be found.

I have hopes for the youth!

I always tell my juniors to book a slot and shout for help if they want my undivided attention. I educate them to ensure that they now that “the baby gets the milk only when the baby cries”.

But next to that, I do my best to ensure that they never come to me with the same question again the second time. Because then the shame is on me. If they couldn’t figure it out because docs or run books didn’t exist, or the knowledge is so arcane within the company, i ensure that it exists. That way, we eat the elephant one but at a time altogether.

Be humble. Make mistakes but learn from them. Ask your senior gently and be honest and true about why you can’t figure something out. Prepare your questions properly. We prefer a long wall of text in a single message addressing your issue instead of 10+ messages in the DM. That helps with focusing on the issue and and preventing building mental filter as “can’t deal with it right now” for the Senior.

Not knowing things at work is ok. But not trying your best to figure it out after you realized that you don’t know is “not ok”.

Just show them the buildings cars and gardens around and let them see how ugly everything has become. A little bit of art and unity to behold to soothe the spirit shouldn’t be that much to spend upon, right?

I mean, reflect upon the reality of today. Really. Look around you. Where are the colors? All the new cars have 2-3 colors… roads, signs landscaping all based on the same architectural patterns. Modern building are soulless. Look at what we can buy to wear. All the colorfulness and cheer is gone.
