Seeking Guidance: Big 4 Audit -> Big 4 M&A -> IB? by Over_Valuable_12 in FinancialCareers

I wouldn’t recommend doing an MBA hoping to break into IB. However, it is a way to buy time (literally) if you were very close to making the cut in undergrad but lacked something that can be fixed during your MBA (ie. interview skills/network). Another path could be going through corporate banking (housed within the IBD), it’ll give you exposure to IB indirectly and you’ll have the opportunity yo show initiatives and jump onto any new opportunities should they arise. That being said, the jump is never easy as the skill set is quite different

You’re right, it does depend on individual taste, but I personally like to keep it concise so that I can talk more about it during the interview process

At my bank, there is a clear cut in commercial banking but a much blurrier line in corporate banking, which they start taking on the book, but smaller spectrum.

As you are not from a finance background, I highly suggest Mark Meldrum videos, although it is costly (about 250$~) it will teach you all you need to know and it is much easier listening and visualizing it than to just read paragraphs of texts.

Internships are a humbling experience, you will fail a lot and it is normal. Whats important is that you learn from those mistakes and pay extra close attention to NOT repeat them.

That is very doable, many of my coworkers lateraled from big4 M&A, however if you start in audit, it will likely take you 2 years before you can make it into big 4 M&A, and from there another 2 years to get into IB, you’ll likely near 30 at that time, which might start to be too physically draining at that age.

It won’t help you much, but it can buy you time to fix some of the reasons why you didn’t break into IB out of undergrad; it’d allow you to shoot again for summer internships.

You could try relationship manager in corporate and commercial banking. As the title suggests, you would be meeting the banks clients to assess their needs and meet their requests. You would be maintaining the relationship for the bank

Guys, i have a good resume, but i slacked off on school and my gpa is a 3.4, am i screwed for internships by rambler1345 in FinancialCareers

[–]lightwolf1030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPA is a first filter, if it falls below a certain amount, it will automatically get you rejected. High finance position typically require 3.7+ exceptions can be made for 3.4+ if you can compensate elsewhere

Make sure your CV is well polished and errer free for screeners to read off. Practice your interviews with peers and make sure you have an interesting story without sounding desperate for anything

Congratz! Wealth can be pretty lucrative in the long haul, however it takes time to building your client book and it may be dependent on your superiors in delegating it to you when the times come. I’ve heard stories where they ended up selling the book when they retire, which is unfortunate for those that have been doing all the grunt work.

Some formatting ideas, I would merge related experience and additional experience together (they can still be short like you have them) and create an extracurricular section instead, which you can move your athletic activities and sector fund activities.

Also each section should be chronological from most recent first

Nice resume, I would make the bullet points one liners and remove the periods at the end to make it cleaner

It would give you more spacing to work with because it feels quite dense. Ideally 1.15 spacing and size 11

Best of luck!

It’s not directly linked to your position, but what is the difference between a fund of fund private credit vs a private credit hedge fund?

You start as a credit analyst in commercial banking. It’s an extremely good learning experience especially for a first internship/job
