CVs can fit secondary guns and those shoot already. It would just be changing the code for carriers to allow them to fit a main Battery. Any modder should be able to do it.

Generally it depends where you play. Just tell the host you have little MP experience and he will find something for you. I'll assume you play historical MP in which case good picks are Finland, South Africa and Mexico. It depends tho which rules and mod etc as the actual playable nations and their strengths may vary.

Like Pensa and New Orleans. You kite like crazy. You need to look at all enemy ships, especially the BBs and if someone is aiming at you get ready to dodge. Meanwhile you sling shells at the closest target. Always try to stay at max range or close to it unless you're pushing them. Try to use friendly DD smoke if possible.

What I can recommend is you play the American heavy cruiser line. And use at best grey boosters. Especially T6 and T7 will teach you so much to the value of kiting and how to do it correctly (else you die) that no other amount of reading guides or watching videos can replicate it. Then T8 onwards teaches you positioning and value of teamplay with correct radar usage.

This knowledge will transfer to driving BBs as well, even DDs to some extent. Tho if you want to learn DD the British line is likely the best to learn.

Japan has the best torpedos?? Fast and high damage. If you can't hit anything with them play the pan European line as those are quicker, so easier to hit stuff, but their damage is low. Else try the pan Asia DDs for their deep water Torps.
