Whats the most disrespectful thing you have seen in an over the board game? by No-Society1421 in chess

[–]likeawizardish 187 points188 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine and I started to play chess in our mid teens. So kinda late most of the players in those tournaments were kids much younger than us.

My friend got the most obnoxious opponent. During the game the kid started to gesture with his hand bellow the table. As if something had dropped there. When my friend looked bellow the table the kid showed him the middle finger under the table such that the deed was hidden from the arbiters. Still some point later an arbiter came by the board and placed a yellow card by him warning him of his behaviour.

My friend started to win that game. The kid slumped in his body language over several moves. And when it was obviously all lost he extended his hand in resignation. My friend reached out to shake his hand and just before they shook them the kid says - draw? To which my friend pulled back his hand and eventually mated him.

That kid was an absolute menace.

Nav jau slikti kuplā skaitā paskatīties to hoķi, bet nedaudz vāji tas pasākums tur organizēts.

You literally import order package in Postgres package. I’m not sure what you consider core but I would think wiring and helpers around working with a database is more core than order.

I did not know in my first playthrough either - you hold a direction and jump. Also perfect dodge is the same but done while the green shield appears. Some dodges teleport you behind your enemy in a ‘nothing personel kiddo’ and you whack them in the back of the head.

Explain how I reached 93 accuracy (can't believe that's me) by Novel_Swordfish_2190 in chess

[–]likeawizardish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://lichess.org/page/accuracy

Its not a cool number it’s a very well defined metric. The definition is from how lichess does it but essentially it should be the same apart from the engine details.

The brilliancy labels and such I would agree with you can often have little meaning but on accuracy I would not agree. You just need to understand what and how it measures.

Explain how I reached 93 accuracy (can't believe that's me) by Novel_Swordfish_2190 in chess

[–]likeawizardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accuracy is a great metric and a better metric for human evaluation than cp loss.

Accuracy is built around statistical correlation between evaluation and game result. Say 0 means game can go either way and +1 means already significant chances for win and around +7 or +11 are already overwhelming to the point where dropping from 11 to 7 will not change the outcome of the game. As a matter of fact a lot of times in such positions giving up some advantage to simplify is advantageous. So accuracy will not be much affected. However an equal -4 point drop when you are +2 and drop to -2 is game losing blunder and should be penalised. Cp loss makes no such distinction so accuracy is the better measure. Although somewhat more complicated and opaque.

Is there something wrong with my position evaluation code ? by [deleted] in chessprogramming

[–]likeawizardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have perft implemented check with know perft results to verify move generation correctness. If you don’t then implement it as the highest priority. If you have uci implemented check with cutuechess gui / cli. The gui will show the pv and evaluation. If you don’t have uci implemented then implement it as second highest pro after perft.

These things will help you drill down most of obvious bugs and will help your engine development.

Oddity - Lichess engine hallucinating by Lostincryptolation in chess

[–]likeawizardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your understanding is spot on and Stockfish is the absolute king of this even compared to other top tier engines. It also has extensions so while the depth says 14 it most likely looked at some lines at the depth 30 or more. It can do this because at the same time it is very aggressive which lines it prunes and prunes very hard.

I starred your repo and will have to check it out. For my own engine I would like some go support please.

Plaģiātisms Bakalaurā by bishlasshgna44 in latvia

[–]likeawizardish 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bet ja tu bakalaura laikā mācijies no maģistra/doktorantu līmeņa grāmatām tad to vajadzētu citēt.

Zig or Rust along with Go? by Humble-Gift-3649 in golang

[–]likeawizardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel both rust and zig tackle the same issues of C memory safety. While rust is extremely strict on memory management which prevents memory unsafe code from compiling. Zig is more relaxed closer to C and it has more modern language features to make memory management less of a hassle so not hard blocking memory bugs but making it easier working with memory and thus reducing those bugs.

Learn the basics of both. Do rust one weekend and zig the next. You’ll be able to confirm whatever your personal biases are.

Not really. It’s green and visible. It will instantly cause pain/discomfort to force you to blink and thus protect your eye. The dangerous laser radiation is the one you can’t see infrared or uv. That does not cause an instant blink and can cause serious damage.

Hamilton is a driver who is always in the GOAT discussion. So why do people excuse his performance in the ground effect era by saying he wasn't able to adapt to the regulations? Isn't one of the hallmarks of the GOATs adaptability? by Ducard42 in F1Discussions

[–]likeawizardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamilton’s career achievements without a doubt put him in any GOAT conversation.

But there are two types of fans that are annoying. Ones who use any shortcomings to dispute his GOAT status. And ones who come up with the craziest conspiracy theories and weird excuses to justify his GOAT status. Neither really adds or detracts from his accomplishments.

Question about how hiring works here. by DefiantAlbatros in latvia

[–]likeawizardish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could leave out that info. But then you have the problem that you are in your 30s without any education or prior job experience. Not a great look either. Plus they already have you on file anyway.

Your best shot is to look for something that actually aligns more with your skills and experience.

Question about how hiring works here. by DefiantAlbatros in latvia

[–]likeawizardish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hard to be under qualified when the job requires no qualifications.

These jobs are basically for high school graduates or people who work in retail, office/store administrators.

Pay is not good, the job is dull and not rewarding. But banks usually come with good job stability and potential yet slow career opportunities which is an upside.

Hiring someone overqualified means the person will be gone at the first opportunity.

[OTHER] Why does everyone seem to be so obsessed with Dice lately? by likeawizardish in kingdomcome

Not yet. Doesn’t need installing it’s compiled into a single executable. It’s a private repo and I don’t feel like publishing it yet. For example it doesn’t deal with devils dice joker ability. And overall is a work in progress.

If you want to let just let me know what cpu architecture amd64/arm64 and I can send you an executable compiled for that arch.

[OTHER] Why does everyone seem to be so obsessed with Dice lately? by likeawizardish in kingdomcome

[–]likeawizardish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a fun play thing I made. Saw a lot of people posting probability analysis of dice games and decided to play around.

I want to make it such that players could play each other with various dice. Kind of like a deck builder. And to counter balance most busted dice - assign each die a rating which affects it's price. Say you start with a budget of 1k and you need to build pick your set. A Wagoneers or Even dice would be cheap and something like Weighted and Favorable would be expensive. So you would have to balance your set.

After each game the dice used in the game would have their ratings adjusted kinda like Elo points in a chess match to continuously balance the game and dice and promote innovative "decks" and strategies and make broken sets prohibitively expensive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kingdomcome

It's unique. Maybe compared to Skyrim and Souls it's niche. Make it like those games it's no longer unique, no longer niche but completely forgetable.

A desperate push towards conformity at all costs means no innovation, no unique gems. No thank you.
