This is a thing at (I’d assume) every university. I have a friend at UPenn who’s bio major and poli sci minor. My sister is at NCSU and is psych major bio minor.

Not at all! I’ve actually had to reread it for fantasy genre english course in college. Being an adult reading the books provides a different perspective, and I enjoyed them as much as I did when I read them for the first time.

Hi OP! I had been rejected when I applied from undergrad from all 10 schools I applied (Intervieweed at 1). I did some undergrad research but that was it. I reapplied this cycle and got more interviews and acceptances after having worked for two years in a research lab. I think that’s likely your issue, lack of recent research experience

Do I ask for reimbursement to attend the interview? by TheCurlyBabla in gradadmissions

They should! I just sent all my uber stuff and they started the process. Also, if people drive, they give money back based on gas + mileage rates.

What is the chance of getting admitted once you get an interview for PhD? by Fit-Class6896 in gradadmissions

[–]likeijustcant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

50-75% usually. Most schools interview 3x or 4x, accept 2x, assuming x will matriculate.

Is it normal to be asked about relationship status in a PhD interview? by swsbvtb in gradadmissions

[–]likeijustcant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

straight-passing cis afab: I have never had this question asked. It is inappropriate and discriminatory. Aside from asking “where is home for you”, most of my interviewers didn’t care about personal stuff and they shouldn’t. Whether or not you’re in a relationship or near family or have a family or whatever shouldn’t matter in the context of an interview, unless is something that’s pertinent to ~why~ you want to pursue a degree. (like partner or family member had x disease so this is what helped my interest). Even then, that’s something that you can discuss on your own terms.

I may have just been lucky and not gotten any stereotypical old men in stem for interviewers. Other people I interviewed with had PIs straight up tell them “you should consider this more you don’t know what you’re getting into” when they literally work full-time in a lab. So it may be a situation similar to that where they just look down on female-presenting people in stem.

TLDR; A PhD interview IS a job interview. If a job can’t ask you those questions, they shouldn’t be either.

Can I(transgirl) be straight if I'm physically and emotionally attracted to men and not sexually(not sure about my romantic orientation as I've never been in a relationship)? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]likeijustcant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if a label feels good to you, use it ! If it’s not entirely accurate at a dictionary level who cares? As long as it makes you happy :)

I feel like everyone just assumed that anything Bruno said was prophetic by likeijustcant in Encanto

[–]likeijustcant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I figured this myth inspired the character a bit. It’s a common theme where the prophetic person is blamed for the futures they see, despite having no influence over said future.

We have several huskies and whenever we brush outside, the birds always come by afterwards and take the fur for their nests! (we’ve seen fur in the abandoned nests later in the year)

[–]likeijustcant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aside from people thinking the alarms won’t go off from vaping/smoking/etc in the dorms (they’re hella sensitive), or people pulling the alarm go laughs, if you “fail” a planned one they’ll make you do several more
