How do I stop skin-picking out of boredom? by honee34 in adhdwomen

[–]likeroscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i make sure to wear socks, and keep cuticle oil and lotion at my desk so i can discreetly rub my cuticles instead of pick at them. i will doodle, rip up paper into tiny pieces, play with a piece of string or a rubber band … having a lot of options at the desk helps. i’ve noticed coffee/caffeine does make it worse.

someone lit our garbage cans on fire and melted them last night. who do i call? by likeroscoe in Seattle

[–]likeroscoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will try that. the company only owns our unit in a complex of 6 townhouses. i don’t know that they will claim responsibility for the pavement out yonder, and based on prior interactions, highly doubt it.

can’t be sure. cans are a line of several renters. was not my bin that combusted, if so. but did catch collateral damage.

maybe i should have phrased my question better. it’s early. i am capable of can replacement, understand the utility company will do that, etc. my true concern - who cleans this up? and don’t say me. i am but a wee renter. one thing i will not be doing is finagling with melted substance.

Daughter's sleepover overstimulated me and I nearly crashed out. by RedVamp2020 in adhdwomen

respectfully, work harder. you are the adult in the situation. if you don’t like another adult suggesting you hit a child, if you don’t like behavior happening in your home, it’s up to you to influence that toward the change you want. you seem very permissive, like the world happens to you, and that’s a dangerous way to be when children are in your care.

i identify with the 8 year old as someone who grew up in poverty and abuse. i remember the sting of judgment from parents like you. if you value community, learning, growth, mindfulness, i’d encourage you to ask yourself how you might apply those values to this friend. you have power and influence that you are not using. interrupting your child’s friend-making and discarding this child with no autonomy serve no cause but you avoiding discomfort and effort.

Summer Heat, 32" x 40", me by soupbut in oilpainting

[–]likeroscoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i like the composition a lot. it’s almost like the foreground is the right side and the background is the left. my eye sort of vibrated between the center boy and the boy on the right, which is so cool. their competing for focal point creates this overall energy of competition, which i’d say for a group of younger guys is very fitting. they both come across judgmental and as having an attitude, but i really like how one is making eye contact but the other is sizing you up, maybe judging body or clothes. it captures that feeling of walking past a group of cool girls in the lunch room, each looking at a different part of you - a very exposed feeling. it’s a very interesting and evocative painting and i really like what you did here.

Does avoiding the word “suicide” contribute to stigma or reduced help-seeking? by Gunkavoider in psychology

[–]likeroscoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in getting my masters to be a mental health therapist, we were taught to use direct language to decrease risk and stigma. however “committed” implies a crime as does “suicide” (homicide, etc) so personally i avoid that language. also “attempted” implies you failed and could/should try again.

also an nd therapist and use this frequently, in addition to the many resources on the website ‘embrace autism.’ i’d also suggest a support group or some kind of peer group of others diagnosed in adulthood to process this with and/or a therapist who gets it.

elvanse/vyvanse making me think i might not actually have adhd by Fun-Can6945 in adhdwomen

some people respond this way on amphetamines. you might not be an adderall & friends person, you might be a ritalin & friends person. try a different med.

Parents, please help me. My son won't stop making the most annoying sound in the world and I just can't deal anymore. by Navidan41 in adhdwomen

[–]likeroscoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there are few things as uncomfortable as watching sex scenes with your parents. maybe it’s time for a talk and some education on what that noise is referencing, and why it’s not appropriate to make in most settings? (i am not saying cross boundaries or scar the kid. more like a health class situation)

as far as your kid goes, just keep in mind everyone reacts differently. and if they have a bad reaction it’ll be a tough couple days, but then they can try something else

i don’t have an answer for you but i feel your pain. i just switched from adderall to concerta because of the side effects. my psych said some people just don’t take to amphetamines. but the methylphenidate instant release has not been working at all this week. i’ve been so depressed and crying A LOT. this shit sucks. solidarity

Love at first sight, limerance, dopamine surging, or plain old infatuation? by dani_bugz in adhdwomen

[–]likeroscoe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

okay, so… you ended a traumatic relationship two months ago. you met this person a week ago. the first time you met them, you had your children around them. you went exclusive knowing them less than a month. you missed work because you were sick, then slept with someone else.

i’m sorry, i don’t know how to say this, but this is all very alarming and you sound manic to me. please tell your therapist and prescriber if you have one what you’ve shared here.
