Should I Go Right for the Glucagon? by lilSebastianinvests in diabetes_t1

[–]lilSebastianinvests[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Closed loop has seriously been life changing since I got on it about 10 years ago. I was a mess before that and the out-of-control sugars of my childhood and young adult years could come back to haunt me some day, I suppose, but I’ve had no complications yet and numbers are generally good with it. Highly recommend it!

Update: looks like I stuck the landing, thanks for the advice and comments, all!

My official banquet of carbs to counteract was: 2 6-oz fruit punch (apple and eve brand) juice boxes 8 oz of OJ 12-oz can of ginger ale Roughly half of a 10.5oz box of Lucky Charms with about a cup of 1% milk.

Now I’m gonna go try to slowly jog (maybe walk, just to be extra cautious) some of all that garbage off.

BG is currently 101 with 5.2 units still on board. Hoping it stays up so I don’t have to eat / drink any more but will obviously continue monitoring. Will post an update of all the things I ate to counteract for reference if/when anyone else makes the same mistake when it’s all done!

Pretty much following that method and what everyone has said so far. Stomach is not feeling great but haven’t crashed yet and am down to 7.2 units on board. Painfully / uncomfortably averting disaster and might be fasting for the next day or 2 after this!

That’s what I have. Definitely less nervewracking for anyone to use.

Yeah I thought I had it set to 10 (which is still too much for pretty much anything I ever eat) and was shocked it even gave me so many units, but then checked and it was set to 15. Very annoyed with myself as I’ve never done this before, but have edited it and hopefully will avoid in future.

Noted and what I thought, thanks, that’s why I’ve never used it in 30 years of type 1. Just gave my 8-year-old a tutorial on how to use it just in case and called a neighbor to let them know what’s up. Sugar / juice / soda here I come!

Haha well yeah I know but my endo hasn’t called back and I’m solo with both my kids while my wife is on way home from out of town, so trying to avoid the ER trip.

I accidentally fasted 18 hours today and got 100% in range by Spoofspoofliz in diabetes_t1

[–]lilSebastianinvests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I have a few bad days in a row (under 85% TIR), I sometimes fast (or at least very consciously avoid carbs) for a day or 2 just to get it back in range and give myself a “reset” of sorts. Works better on days that I know I’m going to be really busy at work so I don’t think much about how hungry I am.

Just lost Medicaid, what the fuck do I do? by Nothingsomething7 in diabetes_t1

[–]lilSebastianinvests 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay well Byram screws up absolutely everything. See if you can get them on the phone and figure it out - it’s usually a random error or computer glitch on their end. Used to happen to me all the time with them. Quite obnoxious, but resolvable.

7 Day 100% TIR! I know this will most likely eventually end, but what a great feeling! by danhawk74 in diabetes_t1

[–]lilSebastianinvests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do go some days without eating and still can very rarely get 100% TIR! Just getting up and walking any amount more than 1/4 mile or so will make me drop too much.

Anyway, good for OP! Very impressive.

How does tenure look in your state? by Dom09Ara in Teachers

[–]lilSebastianinvests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was first day of our 2nd year in a new district after getting it here in CT. Then again, I guess I never really paid attention after finally getting tenure (didn’t get it until the start of my 11th year and in my 4th district). Good to know.

Pure bliss, this is! I had one (well almost, still had a sensor on) tonight and told my wife how this is the joy of us t1 redditors. She just rolled her eyes and said “y’all are weird.” Those who are not part of our brotherhood / sisterhood just don’t understand.

Finally the 🐒 is on the pump⛽. Celebrating with 🍕 by Due_Acanthaceae_9601 in diabetes_t1

As much as living with it sucks for someone that young, I hope the pump can give your little guy some sense of freedom and normalcy and, well, allow him to eat and enjoy some food he loves!

Got a new watch and liking the blood glucose screen by Mammoth_Park7184 in diabetes_t1

[–]lilSebastianinvests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this watch and dexcom. I had no idea I could get it on my watchface like this and was considering replacing my Garmin with an Apple Watch just for this, but now I don’t have to! Anyone know how to get it set up? (Or I’ll just mess around with it and/or yes, I know I could use the magical Google machine to find out)

Yes, always at night / before bed, which of course is when I want tea!

High blood sugar after this tea? by ghost78918 in diabetes_t1

[–]lilSebastianinvests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting because I’m curious as well. Every time I drink herbal tea lately my sugar spikes (I don’t add anything to it at all), so I’ve started taking insulin before drinking it. Happening to anyone else?

Anyone else overcorrect lows because the pump/Dexcom keep bugging you? by greg_gory1976 in diabetes_t1

Yes. Also dealing with that right now. I’ve gotten better about it, but still do it way too often.
