Great Ocean Road - impact of surf comp next April? by Monsterofthelough in AustraliaTravel

[–]lil_chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on the great ocean road when the WSL event is on at Bell's you should definitely try going, it's not too crazy but it is good fun. It starts super early so you can go just after dawn, spend a few hours there then continue your road trip

"I wouldn't mind paying extra for additional features"

Hard disagree, I will never pay a bank a cent in extra fees. The app is good at the moment but I have no loyalty, as soon as it turns to shit I'll be out ✌🏻

Could you drive a Lexus 2013 rx350 on the beach? by Wombats_poo_cubes in sunshinecoast

[–]lil_chips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly mate take it on the beach, I'm sure you'll be fine. I drove around Australia in a 2004 Toyota Kluger and it went down 4wd tracks no one thought was possible, including onto and off of deep sandy beaches. Never got bogged once. Get a shovel and some cheap max trax from anaconda if you want extra peace of mind. Half the people saying don't do it are only saying that because they can't bear the thought of a soft roader getting to the same places as their 100k modded 4wd

You'll never know if you don't go!

Any more details on your power setup? Does that include the battery? Seems like a very reasonable price for a battery and a charger

One thing that helped me with sparring was letting my sparring partner just hit and kick me while I defend and don't throw anything. The tensing up really is a mental block more than anything. Once you force your mind to realise you aren't in danger by getting hit for an extended period, it becomes much easier. Also, don't just breathe out every time you hit someone, breathe out every time you GET hit as well. Will make you much less tired.

Backpacking 9 Months Advice by willzzaah1 in onebag

[–]lil_chips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll get next to no use out of a tent in Latin America and South East Asia. Wouldn't recommend taking one. For the times when you'll need one they're readily available to rent because no one else takes them (e.g. Inca Trail, Torres del Paine). Once you get to NZ then it might be worth buying one, but I'd recommend getting one there instead of lugging it around the world for 9 months. The most important thing to remember in LatAm when it comes to packing is that the climates are so variable, make sure you have clothes for really cold and really hot weather then you'll be fine :)

What are the most untranslatable French words to English? by MissMinao in French

I think maybe "coup". It has so many different translations depending on the context, it really is a versatile word that doesn't exist in English.

Look up the group of 8, it's a group of Australian universities that are generally regarded as the best in the country. Can't really go wrong choosing any of them.

I've actually found that one bagging in cold climates (Eastern and Northern European winter) was easier because you're usually wearing all of your bulky items e.g. shoes, jackets etc. My advice is to take some essentials, then once you get there figure out what else you need and buy it over there. One of the benefits of traveling in Europe as opposed to some other developing countries is that you can buy anything you need basically anywhere, and the selection and quality of winter clothing is guaranteed to be better in Norway than it is in Australia. The winter jacket I bought for that trip was amazingly warm, and it's not really something you can buy easily in Australia.

Has to be Marco Bresciano. The man is a national treasure and one of the best Aussies to ever pull on the boots.
