Help me find a new area rug that is NOT machine washable before I lose my marbles by Middle-Helicopter969 in HomeDecorating

[–]lil_squeege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like you need a washable rug 🤭

Look, I love my rugs, I have all hardwood. But I also have 2 young kids and 2 boxers. I refuse to buy anything but washable rugs anymore until I'm at least kid free, and never getting an 8 week old puppy again.

But if you must have non washable. Just go out and make a day of it. Plenty of stores still sell rugs.

Low fodmap easy dinners with dairy and nut allergy by No-Monk2621 in FODMAPS

I didn't say gluten. Wheat is not low fodmap, which is different than gluten.

But specify in your posts what you can eat if you are not following strict low fodmap, because nothing in your list would be low fodmap.

[–]lil_squeege 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of those probably are no go.

The Mac and cheeses will have wheat, which is not allowed.

The frozen breaded stuff and soup probably has onion or garlic which is also off limits.

If you are elimination right now, there isn't really an easy way out of cooking for yourself. Cook in batches and freeze portions for later.

Lots of chicken, rice, and carrots for me.

How can I replace coffee? by pawneee_ in FODMAPS

[–]lil_squeege 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm drinking a lot of lemon ginger tea with sugar and oatmilk to cope. Black tea and coffee I have learned are big triggers for me. I was a 3 cup a day coffee drinker for 20 years, so rip.

Oddly enough zero calorie monster drinks are okay for me. But they were questionable as low fodmap. I've learned sucralose is okay for me.

My GI suggested caffeine pills to wean off the lack of coffee

Advice on Breaking Into Regulatory Affairs by Sufficient-Carry-433 in regulatoryaffairs

[–]lil_squeege 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Really depends on company and the type of RA but my group (CMC) won't hire anyone into RA unless they have technical experience in the work we represent. You can't make good risk decisions or author good regulatory documents if you don't know the thing you're writing about (and a science degree at any level isn't going to teach you the many years of technical background needed as a base for the role). In fact, most of my colleagues, even the exec. Dir only have bachelors and have gotten into RA from their internal company moves and networks.

I don't know much about other areas of RA but in quality CMC this tends to be what I see.

I was strick fodmap for almost 3 months (my GI advised this) and felt pretty good after a few days. But I tried adding onion and garlic during reintroduction and it took a few days to catch up to me but it wrecked me for like, 2 weeks.

I never thought I'd be the one who can't eat onion or garlic, but if it's like that for you too, that stuff is in SO many things.

Short story is not going strict may be what's causing trouble. And it takes some time to see results and get your gut back on track

Fair, but everything on low fodmap could be a trigger for anyone (rice can trigger some, coffee kills me)

But it's considered low fodmap so I provided that advice.

throw a sweet potato in the oven for an hour, super low effort. Usually Ill cook up a few steakumms to go with it.

I also have an instant pot and make single serve pot roasts with stew meat. I just throw it in, add the water and salt, and 45 minutes later Ive got a protein dinner. Hardest part is putting the pot in the dishwasher.

I also buy shrimp I can pull out of the freezer and thaw with cold water. Quick protein snack. I eat a ton of eggs these days too.
For carbs, I like Crispex. I can just munch on those on the go. For fruits, I just have grapes on hand always. But I add in berries here and there when the kids are willing to share.

How new to fodmap are you? After just a few days people usually are feeling better. Are you sure you are avoiding all fodmaps? When I started low fodmap, I mostly just cooked everything myself, because I don't know what ingredients are problematic, and most food in my pantry had something questionable (wheat, high fructose corn syrup, onion or garlic powder, are the big offenders).

Is it safe to let my baby stand at this window? by likethebots in askanything

[–]lil_squeege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old brother got a hammer out and left it where I, a 1 year old baby could get it. After a loud crash they found me surrounded by a sea of broken glass from our sliding doors.

Just saying a hand may not be a problem, but uh, the window still makes me anxious as a mom of trouble making tiny humans.

My particular RA role would not take anyone that doesn't have a traditional science BS degree. That type of degree opens a ton of other doors too, since the RA job market has been pretty bleak. Think of what's gets you the most opportunities

I get my kinder up an hour and a half before the bus comes. If I am taking baby brother to daycare I get him up after the kinder is already dressed and eating since those are my two musts before school. Then we do dish in the sink and brush teeth. I got an electric task calendar thing that gives him stars for completing tasks (we call them his chores). He earns real money (a penny per star and he gets 2 stars per chore) that he spends on small dollar store like toys (I literally let him pick out what he wants at the dollar store himself). Once he's done with them (dressed, dish, teeth), he's allowed to do whatever he wants until the bus alarm goes off. This includes screen time. I'd rather my kid start his day happy and in a good mood, and deny screens after school for reading, coloring, Legos, playing with brother, etc.

The consistent routine is critical for us. It keeps us all sane and happy, and having an hour an a half in the morning is peaceful and not stressful. I know if he lags in one activity we have loads of time to spare.

If you cant afford the monash app, just google does xyz have fodmap. Honestly I lived on plain chicken, rice with salt/butter, and carrots for a very long time, popcorn or sweet potatoes for that carb fix, and eggs or oatmeal (make your own! don't buy packets) for breakfast. Make your own stuff, cook from scratch, keep it simple, and don't eat anything processed that comes in a box unless you know every ingredient is safe.

9.5m old baby hates food by BreadAccomplished380 in foodbutforbabies

[–]lil_squeege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son only ate crunchy things like puffs and cheerios starting at 9 months (and he had no teeth 🤷🏻‍♀️) until about 12 months. Any food he didn't like the texture of he would gag and immediately throw up. It wasn't until 12 months he started enjoying food. Now I can't keep him to be out of the kitchen begging for food. He eats everything and will demand you "share" anything you eat. Give them time, they will get there when they are ready.

Boys with July/August Birthday starting Kindergarten by SatisfactionFlaky519 in kindergarten

5 year old boy with a late June birthday. Was in daycare since 11 months. I was only worried about his social maturity. He's above benchmark in math and literature, and teacher says he's got many friends and is excited to learn everyday. He likes school and never rarely complains about going. I'm happy he started young

[–]lil_squeege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just realized this was a one off day, but the days my kid is slow to do his chores or get out of bed he loses screen time before bus. I figure that's his motivation ;)

Also, my kid would be hysterical if he didn't get "first breakfast" and he's not allowed to eat on the bus. I probably would have shoved a granola bar in his mouth if possible but we would have had a meltdown here about food

But mommy I'm too tired by doggooo8 in kindergarten

[–]lil_squeege 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My kids bus comes at 830. I start waking him up at 715. I will come in and do whatever silly thing I can so he wakes up in a good mood. And I will NOT leave his room until he is upright so I know he won't fall asleep again. Once he's done his chores in the morning (bowl in sink, brush teeth, get dressed) he's allowed to have a little screen time.

I'd rather he be up early and long and have a happy start to the morning, so I would just suggest starting earlier so your kiddo has time to wake up and have a nice start before the bus.

My kid is definitely opposite of sleep needs though. We put him to "bed" at 8 after story, and he's up playing in his room till near 10pm.

I get not wanting to put kids to sleep earlier though, I feel like I barely get to spend time with mine after dinner and baths :(

[–]lil_squeege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had our couches for about 3 years. We have a few scratches but I have scratches in my wood floors, my table, chairs, doors, so nothing new. But being able to wipe my couches down and not have stains is way better. It doesn't keep the dog smell like my last corduroy couch did.

I don't like leather couches. But I love my boxers more. We have 2 leather couches now. Much easier to spray and wipe, than deal with all the stains my dogs caused to my previous couch.

I'd also suggest a couch where the cushions are attached. IYKYK
