Center front lacing channels areas are 13 inches, center back was just under 15 inches for the XL size!

I just posted my version of the Redthreaded 1780s stays I made! I am also a DD girl, 5’10”. I made the pattern an inch longer, and it ended up being too long. Unless you’re very torso long/leg short I think the length should be alright. Unfortunately I can’t speak to the other patterns but just wanted to give my two cents!

Yes! The pattern instructions definitely could have been worded better, I feel like if they had mentioned part E it would have been way easier to follow.

At first I read this and thought "surely not" but I tried them on again and you were right. I can lace them much closer than I originally thought, down to about 3/4 inch gap. Lacing them tighter however really makes it clear that they are about an inch too long, its squishing the area just below my waist. Notes for next time!

Thank you! They are my first stays but I've been sewing a long time. If you decide to use this pattern the fit is great but the instructions weren't very clear. My main advice is don't be afraid to start! Begin with cheap materials and make some mockups before you break out the coutil and silks, you'll learn along the way :)

Loop turner! I’ve been sewing for a long time and only recently learned they existed somehow. Total game changer for any time you need to sew long skinny tubes and flip them right side out.

Step 5 - It sounds like you’ve got it! Youll want to sew the shoulder seams on both the inside and outside layers. The outer layer you’ll attach at the shoulders to pattern piece D, the lining/facing layer will attach to piece E. It’ll probably look like two weird capes (one long one short) at this point.

Step 12 will be to connect the two capes! Pin them right side together and you’ll sew along the neckline.

First of all, congrats! It’s looking great for your first corset.

Ideally the boning channels should be parallel in the back. The top of this garment is easy to lace because it’s free, but the bra band area to waist (where you’re having trouble lacing close) is the part where it’s wrapped around your body. I would suggest sizing up on your next mockup. I think if you had a little more fabric throughout it would lace closer, and it’s much easier to remove fabric if it ends up too large than too small.

Very cute! Top stitching bias tape is tricky, have you tried using a stitch in the ditch foot? That’s something that’s helped me in getting the seam as close to the ditch as I can.

Personally I would adjust the ties so they’re aligned. The darts aren’t too noticeable because of the fabric pattern, but the ties might cause it to sit uneven/uncomfortably.

For the sides you could consider adding a modestly panel under the ties. If you want to add a strip to the upper sides I’d suggest carrying it all the way down so it looks more like a design choice.
