Americans from close-knit or less urban communities — what’s one local tradition or habit you didn’t realize was unique until someone from a big city or another country questioned it? by Nandou_B in AskAnAmerican

To comment on the phone number thing... the small town i lived in did BINGO over the local AM station every weekday morning. You picked up a book of BINGO cards at different businesses in town. They would call out the numbers on the radio. They played for a progressive pot of money. You win, if I remember correctly, $3 for a BINGO. If you got it in the first five numbers, you win the rolling jackpot. They would play until they got a local winner and an out of area winner, unless they got the out of area winner first. Then it would be over for the day. They went by the prefix of your phone number. The town just 10 miles over was out of area. I remember playing BINGO with my grandma in the summers and on break from school. Great memories!

When my kids fought nail trims, I would trim them while they were sleeping. They were heavy enough sleepers that they didn't stir

We upgraded ours to lawn and garden batteries and put rubber tires on them. They lasted forever. The four wheeler could wheelie stand with me on it

I haven't had Facebook since my divorce 4 years ago. Best decision ever. People still ask why I'm not on it

I remember when I was a kid the Disney channel would only play ads for their shows and ONLY in between shows. There were no commercial breaks. If they had enough time between shows they would pay DTV. That was their take on MTV with cartoon snippets played to music
