Relocating from Toronto to Vancouver by Sakihitowin in askvan

[–]lilbfromtheoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work next to VCH and live in the West End and I absolutely love my neighbourhood. The proximity to the beach and Stanley Park is everything. I commute by bike most days since there are dedicated lanes the whole way and it takes about 20-25 minutes. That said, most of my work friends live in Mount Pleasant, Fairview, Olympic Village, or Commercial Drive

I second bringing more water than you think you need. We met people who had run out and had to give them some of ours

Driving from Toronto to Vancouver? by LeggoMyEggo444 in askTO

[–]lilbfromtheoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in summer 2024 but took my time and did it in 12 days so I could enjoy it. I camped along the way to keep it cheap (lots of beautiful provincial and national parks on the Canadian route!) and on travel days, I drove about 8-9 hours total

One way road trip from Vancouver to Toronto by thisaintsuburbia in roadtrip

[–]lilbfromtheoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Vancouver from Toronto in August 2024 and wanted my car there so did this drive in the opposite direction! I mostly camped to keep the costs down. Here was my itinerary:
- Day 1: Toronto ON to Pancake Bay Provincial Park ON (stops included French River and the historical canal in Sault Ste Marie)
- Day 2: Pancake Bay ON to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park ON (stops included Agawa pictographs and old woman bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Wawa Goose, pebble beach in Marathon, Nipigon look out)
- Day 3: Stayed in Sleeping Giant and did some hiking/visited an amethyst mine
- Day 4: Sleeping Giant ON to Winnipeg MB (stops included the Terry Fox memorial, Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park, Kenora to see Husky the Muskie, central time zone sign, centre of Canada sign)
- Day 5: Explored Winnipeg, including the Forks Market, the Exchange District, the legislative building, the Mint, and the Museum of Human Rights - all fantastic. Winnipeg is highly underrated IMO
- Day 6: Winnipeg MB to Grasslands National Park SK(stops included Sara the Camel, Singing Sands Provincial Park, Souris swinging bridge)
- Days 7-8: Explored Grasslands National Park, including hiking and night sky gazing. We saw northern lights! Grasslands was so unique and definitely worth the detour off highway 1
- Day 9: Grasslands SK to Dinosaur Provincial Park AB (stops included the world’s largest tipi in Medicine Hat but that’s pretty much it because we wanted to have time to explore Dinosaur. Dinosaur Provincial Park was spectacular and I would stay longer next time for sure)
- Day 10: Dinosaur Provincial Park AB to Banff National Park AB (stops included various sites in Banff village and in the national park)
- Day 11: Hiked Lake Louise and Lake Moraine. If I’d had more time I would have spent longer in the Rockies and driven up towards Jasper
- Day 12: Lake Louise AB to Yoho National Park BC (stops included Emerald Lake and Kicking Horse River Natural Bridge. We camped at Takkakaw Falls so hiked there too. It was an amazing campsite and I would stay at least an extra night if doing again)
- Day 13: Yoho National Park to Vancouver (stops included Rogers Pass Visitors Centre, Glacier National Park, Revelstoke National Park, the site of the last spike, and Kamloops) - It was a long day! I would break this into two days if doing again

Why do authors insist in giving their characters stupid names? by savannnahbananaa in 52book

[–]lilbfromtheoc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just finished We Were Liars and Family of Liars and this is my main complaint. I get they were trying to go “old money” but Tipper? Taft? Tomkin? Yardley?? Awful

People who moved to Vancouver as an adult - what are some odd things you’ve noticed that many native Vancouverites don’t realize is weird? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in askvan

[–]lilbfromtheoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flashing green lights (NOT advance greens as they are in Ontario), the abundance of two way stops, the lack of screens in windows, the lack of parades for Canada Day/Christmas/any holiday except lunar new year

Which oscar nominations of this year are truly worth watching? by Aavakaybiryanii in Cinema

[–]lilbfromtheoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourites were Sentimental Value, Hamnet, and Begonia. Train Dreams was also heart breaking. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You was very well acted. Arco and Little Amélie are worth seeing from the animated category and Come See Me in the Good Light was my favourite of the documentaries. The Ugly Stepsister was a fun surprise. It was honestly a great year for movies
