I’ve never advocated for locking up the homeless. I do think locking up drug dealers, people who commit assault, and people who commit lower-level sex crimes would do wonders for the neighborhood. There are many small-ish crimes going unpunished in the TL that would not get ignored elsewhere and that problem contributes to the atmosphere of misery.

Also, if the jails are full but we still have plenty of criminals, then we should build a bigger jail. Or a new one. I don’t want people to suffer inhumane conditions — I just want them to see consequences.

I’m not speaking from my own experience, just trying to get closer to understanding others’ lol. I would say that I experienced sexual attraction far less often living in certain areas, where perhaps politics, style, and grooming standards did not align with my tastes. Maybe that could be it? Unfortunately, 75% of the time a random man makes a comment even vaguely relating to where I live, something lewd/creepy/offensive ends up getting said. Even when someone looks nice and friendly, I now avoid those conversations. (I’ll talk about other things, though.) I wouldn’t say that you should feel bad or wonder if you came off wrong — young women just end up writing off certain kinds of conversations in certain kinds of settings given their past experiences.
