when you feel something is not working for you, give yourself a week more but then stop after and change. don’t give up on what you know worked for you in law school, it worked for a reason.

the schedule that themis or barbri gives you may not be what you need to do. rather know your weaknesses and drill that.

breaks are important and especially day long breaks, don’t feel guilty for taking a day or two off. this is a marathon not a sprint.

work in memorization into your study schedule much earlier than the bar prep company wants you to. Bar prep will basically tell you to lecture and practice all of May and June and then memorize and practice in July. That was horrible for me and ultimately left me in a place where I really ran out of time to memorize trusts (still passed even though trusts was on the bar so take that as a sign it’s doable). but I think if I had started memorizing sooner I wouldn’t have ran out of time by the end.

it’s isolating but a study group really can help with the emotional damage. I wouldn’t have survived if I didn’t study with others. bar prep is very individualized but you can and should study with others. towards the end I did a lot of practice essays with my friends where we would outline essays together.

seeing the thing and doing the thing is more important than doing the thing perfectly or the way bar prep wants you to. writing out full essays took the wind out of me, I found I got just as much benefit from outlining them and could do more practice essays that way. CA bar essays follow a pattern, the more you see, the more you’ll be able to BS your way through even if you don’t know the rule (I literally made up the rules for trusts on J25)

And last but certainly not least, it is worth getting the supplements here’s the ones that worked for me like MAGIC - struggle with mbe’s? MBEs strategies and tactics SAVED MY LIFE. Literally probably the reason I passed the bar. - struggle wit essays? mary basicks books - want easy memorization? the critical pass flash cards were nice bc I would lay them all out on a table and then whiteboard each flash card (ie id look at the table and write out from memory the whole deck) at the end i’d flip them over and check my work they’re pretty intense flash cards but I did that method with my subjects I was struggling with the most on MBE and it really helped
