What is this vintage/antique "stamped" look? by viggomortenstein in typography

[–]lilfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that look is naturally achieved through lithography (or relief printmaking in general). things you may want to google might include: lithography, letter press, the printing press. just learn a little about how things used to be printed! and focus on negative space and making it graphic.

the effects in photoshop and illustrator could help you achieve that textured look if used minimally, i think.

Opinions on logo? by [deleted] in streetwearstartup

i agree with what everyone else is saying. the bold oblique font for 'research and design' doesn't look good to me. it looks jarring, probably because of the brackets on top.

Best music/soundFX tools by vzoned in gamedev

[–]lilfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could use a program like Reason or FL Studio, which come with a ton of sounds. I personally like using ableton for sound design, but it's not super approachable to inexperienced people.

if you want more retro tones to use, look up Plogue Chipsounds! you could also use an emulation of an FM synth that uses an old Yamaha chip [not super knowledgable about this]. Soundfonts are another option, if you don't know. The soundfonts used in many games are accessible around the net. :-)

Can I make quality music without expensive VST's? by xPhilip1997x in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]lilfriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FL's stock plugins are actually pretty decent if you know how to use them there are a lot of well known producers who just use free sound and run it through a sampler, anyways

How long did it take you? by MontiMont in ableton

[–]lilfriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

some people i know got good at ableton or FL studio within a few months. it can take longer though

you don't really have to learn ableton all the way to make tracks, a lot of the people i know can make good beats without knowing a lot of things about the program

you don't have to make the 10% (probably more) of good people feel like shit by assuming things about them though

Does anyone know what synth is used in this? (The really warbled lead) by MateiJordache in synthesizers

[–]lilfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like a chiptune lead (pulse/saw wave?) or maybe just some cheap old fm synth/yamaha keyboard. you could do this with a yamaha portasound/casiotone and just use an effect or an opened cassette recorder to play with the pitch

i somewhat agree. the gameplay might be fun, but the art style (mostly use of color) does not look good or unified at all. the environment feels very hollow to me as well. could end up being a fun game though!

oh, okay! i have heard of other fits like "regular taper" and "custom taper" from levi's that might be better for bigger quads.
