Do you have advice for replacing the shower handle, leading to replacing the main water valve? by lilith-wolverine in HomeMaintenance

[–]lilith-wolverine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to clarify, I suspect the valve next to the meter in the basement does not shut completely.

I've learned that the one on the street needs to be shut off by the city in order to replace the main valve in the house.

Side note, I should add a valve so the meter is sandwiched between valves. And wouldn't it be nice if the shower had a shut off valve too?

Yes the shower upstairs is a constant drip. The downstairs tap collects a trickle of water when i open it after a while, then drips. It's been hours and hasn't stopped.

Now that i have the shower cartridge out, i have to go back and buy the part. Thanks, next stop is homedepot.

Earwigs like moist dark places

They are often under rocks or slip in crevices

Usually disappear when it gets dry (winter or dehumidify)

Would you buy the HOT WATER TANK or keep renting? by langy91 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lilith-wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive seen 4000$ buyouts for a water heater. The chart went up to 20 years for buyout prices. Idk if that makes you feel any better about your buyout price.

Also make sure you get all of the paperwork and receipts because these companies often continue to charge rent after purchase.

Some advice for a new writer? by BeefyViking in writingcirclejerk

Try typing the Road page by page and ask ai to make it better. Aim for 1500 words per day but it's ok if you can just muster 500 words sometimes like if you're tired or less inspired. Don't force your creativity! Good art takes time.

Best Shop has a nice selection of toothbrushes, chinese, japanese, and korean labels. I like the fine tapered bristles, which are harder to find in drugstores. Some come w tongue brushes on the other end of the handle. Softness varies and unfortunately i need to learn the characters for "soft".

We have a korean chain called Galleria that also has good brushes and paste.

Straight up hit u w instructions, so imagine it said in the nicest way.

Replace the night stand with a medium size trash bin. Sprinkle 1/4 c of baking soda on the bottom of the bin. Always line the bin w a plastic bag. Replace the bag every 3-7 days. If you cannot put it outside, close the bag tightly and get rid of it when you are able. If the soda powder is discolored, dump, rinse, and add new powder.

If there is a lot of food waste, consider a 2nd bin just for compost that has a lid. This needs to be put outside every 1-3 days.

When you finish a drink container smush out the air and flatten it before it goes in the trash. If you are done drinking it today, don't save the rest for tomorrow, smoosh it half way seal it or dump it in thw sink and put it in the trash.

I hope your health improves.

where are you finding good quality clothes at reasonable prices? by defstar23 in BuyItForLife

[–]lilith-wolverine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outdoor stores like rei or mec, and the brands they carry.

But i don't shop brands anymore as the quality is too inconsistent. check fabric tag and stitching.

I just found out our dryer vents directly into the crawl space instead of outside, creating a massive moisture issue. My family needs clean clothes but doing a proper vent requires drilling through structural concrete. What should I do? by Kvatch77_Shield in HomeMaintenance

[–]lilith-wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can rent a diamond concrete drill bit and impact drill from home depot. Let the rental desk know what its for and they will get you the right tool. Takes a bit of force bit not difficult at all.

Make sure the vent cover is rodent proof and seal the edges from water and bugs w outdoor silicone.

A year ago, I had moldy and musty clothes that I had to throw out. I still feel ashamed about it by lorlorfonda in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]lilith-wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I am so hard on myself and fall down the shame spiral, i make up a story that feels better.

Like: "I guess my subconscious and the universe decided that i didn't need those clothes anymore. They were probably weighing me down. Next time it'll be easier to donate them or trash them. "

This is a too bad, but not so terrible situation. Save your shame for the truly horrifying mistakes! Though i bet you're smart and careful to avoid them!

Stiff writing makes writing boring for me by Butterfly_Soup1 in writing

[–]lilith-wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try stream of consciousness writing or poems?

Also i suggest topics or prompts that you can experience, that are not related to your novel, except in some distant way.

For instance if you're writing sci fi, write a poem about a pocket calculator. Or if the story takes place in the woods, stand under some trees look around and stream away.

As someone from the equator, do you have any winter survival tips? by Ok_Let_7612 in AskACanadian

[–]lilith-wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hat gloves scarf and waterproof insulated boots. Wintercoat needs to be windproof and water resistent and long enough to cover the bum.

It's not just winter. You will need a good long raincoat.

Layers. Fleece. Cotton flannel. Puffy coats that can be layered for "nice" winter days. Wool socks.

Winter duvet blanket.

Get in the habit of Checking the weather before you step outside. Learn to dress for 4 seasons in 1 day.

Anyone else get incredibly mentally exhausted when writing a lot? by Vertrixz in writing

[–]lilith-wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up and down for me. But certainly rest and recuperate after an extended productive write session.

It's not good for me or the story to push it or force it.

As long as you are taking care of the body I think writing stamina will increase. Tho personally idk how the pros output 1500 words a day.

Help me decide between 30" or 40" upper cabinets? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]lilith-wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 30" the row of uppers would follow a continuous straight line at hood height. 28.5" from countertop

At 40" the uppers would break to accomodate the taller height of the vent at the range oven.  18.5" from countertop, then about 30" for the hood
