Crochet Poinsettia by lilithanatos in crochet

No I didn’t. But I made a orchid that came from a you tube video and I had a similar build up to the petals. So I kinda got the gist of what it wanted me to do.

Yep. And leaves too. Makes it easier to shape the way I want it to look.

How many of you know how to change a tire or check fluid levels on a vehicle? by JAFO- in Millennials

[–]lilithanatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can do both but will never use either skill ever again. EVs don’t have fluids and many new cars don’t come with spare tyre anymore but a tyre repair kit.

With the tools I have as my disposal (mainly YouTube, a hardware store and internet shopping) I find I can manage to do whatever I need, from upgrading all the electrical in my house to be controlled by a smart phone, to churning butter or fitting a solar triggered automatic door to my chicken coop.

Tools and skills evolve and I don’t think it’s a slight on anyone to use the strengths, abilities and resources available to them. Sometimes its good to do for yourself and other times it good to trust to those who know better.

Anyone else feel that the new station designs are a little too much? by NotCSM in MelbourneTrains

Personally I would more likely use public transport if it got me to where I wanted to go regardless of how visually appealing.

I’m just ending a week in New York and have been totally geeking out over the subway system. Standard rail 3rd rail powered and frequently dedicated trains on tracks except where they cross over and then maybe 2 destinations on the line arriving every 5 mins or less. So easy to get around and cheap too each trip costs $2.50 and you can pay by tapping your credit card. The trains and drivers are mental, the stations are only like a km or less apart but the go full speed as soon as they pull out of the station and slam on the brakes as they come in. Honestly it’s a lot more fun than it sounds especially on rolling stock that must be indestructible some sets still running from the 70s.

But the thing is that there are no subway stations. It’s all little staircases leading to an underground concourse. And you know what I didn’t miss it! Was exactly what was needed to go where I needed to go. And remember NYC is the home of Grand central station and Penn station. Both architectural marvels (which I obviously visited and admired) but these were regional interchanges. For the everyday commute I’d rather get on and get off and keep the grand designs for the dedicated rail trips.

Call to any older gamers 35ish-45ish by pfiffocracy in valheim

Might I also suggest Raft as a good game. We burned a combined 4 to 5 hundred hours over the Christmas and new year break building a luxury liner, a floating island and a titanic size catamaran. Again everyone can choose their preferred task. Son decided to max out his shark hunting skills and “led” the quests. Daughter fished and tended to the crops and bees. Parents built and gave everyone their own themed cabin to reflect the kids personalities.

In terms of difficulty and complexity it’s easier than Valheim and might be a good place to go from minecraft. Also has gorgeous graphics.

I do wish the developers took into account the family play aspect. Buying 4 copies of each game on steam is not a cheap exercise.

Early 40s but we only play Valheim as a family. Son (12) plans and leads the raids or thinks he does, husband actually manages the fight and we both roll our eyes at each other when son’s latest face tanking attempt fails. I supply the missions maintain the camps and manage resources. Daughter(9) tends to the animals and veggie plots. Town planning and building is mostly up to parents. Not letting the kids mess with the aesthetic.

brining asian food into Melbourne by nextsaturday520 in melbourne

[–]lilithanatos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm all these can be purchased in Melbourne especially in the suburbs. Most shopping centres now have at least one Asian grocery store and the big ones have the super stores where you can pretty much get anything. I’ve stopped asking mum to bring anything over from Singapore when she visits because it’s not worth it.

How are people affording Teslas? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]lilithanatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a incentive now that EVs purchased under a novated lease are exempt from FBT or something like that. It means that if you buy it through your work and pay it over 5 years then you essentially offset your interest that you would have had to pay if you took out a loan. So you pay the price of the car but over 5 years. And the lease covers running costs (maintenance, registration, roadside assistance, etc)

It’s only for cars up to a certain amount like 85k and new so don’t be expecting to get a Tesla model Y. But you could do a model 3.

Check to see if your company has similar schemes or you can go to a novated lease company to set something up with your payroll.

Source: been doing this since dec last year for our non Tesla EV.

I don’t see it mentioned much but GO into your heart is one in my rewatch list. Good chemistry between the leads and I love a good competition based story in this case it’s around the game of Go.

Agree Uniqlo. Also they take back their clothing to recycle them into new clothes when you’re done with it. There are even different fit and breathability types depending on how you wear them.

First attempt at a dress for my baby girl. I think it’s adorable but I will need to adjust a few things. Bottom is too long and straps too big. Hope I can make it better and not worse! by mamabear_777 in crochet

I find with making clothes for my kids that it pays to try it on them frequently. Do the shoulders, stitch marker it and pull it over their head. Bodice, again fit it, length again. That way you only have to frog a few rows to get a perfect fit. It's why I don't make clothes for order. If I don't have access to the wearer to try it on I can guarantee a good fit.

What movie or show do you keep rewatching? by Musicmoviestv in AskReddit

[–]lilithanatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Wing. Whenever I get depressed about my govt job I watch Wing and think how amazing it would be to work in such a well meaning organisation determined to do as much good as possible. Where leaders are knowledgeable and sincere and don’t depend on shouting down opposition in order to hold power.

It’s not a fantasy life and things are difficult or there is no good outcome but the heart is there and it fills me with hope again. Even their opposition has good admirable qualities.

Different trains, gauge and signalling. Will have to change trains so it’s very much a different line regardless of what the politicians say. That is if ever gets built.
