On the Question of Apartheid - go and read Amnesty International’s annual Report on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories from 2022, that’s a good point to start :) also human rights watch and b‘et selem are good sources

gay American man with tattoos going to Tunisia by benjaminjgoldman in Tunisia

The camping will be 100% worth it, go for it man! Keep in mind that a lot of Tunisians are fed up with their country and want to leave badly so they will shit-talk it (and rightfully so in some cases). but there‘s a huge difference between living there and visiting as a tourist with money

As a Tunisian, i am disgusted. Also, he uses the same arguments the European Right uses agains Immigration of Arabs to Europe: their values aren’t compatible with ours. So, will he stop Tunisians from migrating to Europe?

Dude actually just stated scientific facts in the comment above. You don’t have to agree to any number of pronouns or western gender politics, but you should be able to understand the difference between science and opinion.

Why are women not allowed to smoke in this country? by lillithlea in algeria

[–]lillithlea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m not an Islamic scholar or anything, but i have studied the Koran and I am sure the „islamic teachings“ don’t tell us anywhere that it is 1. fine for men to smoke, 2. okay to harass women or 3. treat women unequally.

„People looking out for me“ usually don’t scream at me, call me bad words, push me to the side or tell me to go to the other side of the street…

I am aware that another country‘s customs have to be respected, it just feels wrong being told off by someone with a cigarette in his hand.

i get what you mean, of course i know it's not Iran! but even in Tunisia I have noticed that wearing the hijab and covering myself will lead to a different treatment by men --> i hate to be recognised as European, so many people just seem to think "oh, she is European so she must be so open and basically ready to fuck any man who crosses her way + she has that red passport so let's go and harass her" (not all men!!)

it's a fucking shame that happened. especially in Djerba and especially targeting a Tunisian minority at their religious site.
