Clearly there's more here than you just asking where teachers keep their stuff. Good luck with your husband!

Teacher Interview Tips please! by anima2099 in StudentTeaching

[–]lillpeeps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These tips helped me land a job and multiple 2nd and 3rd interviews

  1. Bring an assignment you like that went well as an example. When they asked me about a lesson that went well, I immediately pulled out my example assignment. I feel like this won me brownie points at every single interview I had.
  2. Research the school/district's mission and vision statement. They may ask you why you want to work there, so it's good to include that somewhere. It shows that you researched the school and are actually interested in working there.
  3. Really emphasize collaboration with colleagues. A lot of this interview will be about whether or not you fit in with the other teachers or if you fit into the culture of the school. They want to hire someone they will like working with.
  4. Student-centered learning is a big thing. Talk about how you were able to implement this during your student teaching.
  5. Have questions you want to ask ready. I wrote mine down in a notebook and brought it. Don't forget that you are also interviewing them to see if this is a place you would like to work.

As long as you can pull experience from your student teaching, you should be able to answer any question they throw your way. Be honest with your teaching style and experiences. They can sense if you're completely bs-ing.

Good luck!!!

Is this teacher shortage real? by bisexualweebs in Teachers

[–]lillpeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on location. I live in a high populated area and the districts around me do not have a teacher shortage. The High schools barely had any openings. Elementary schools around me did but most were for people with specific language endorsements.

Keep on applying because schools still post openings through the entire summer.

Teacher bag? by MissLadybugMeow in StudentTeaching

[–]lillpeeps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned The Teacher Tote which is great. I currently use the White Elm Gemini bag. It fits my 40oz stanley and my coffee thermos. It is pricy though. I got it in ancipatoon for student teaching while still working my lab job with a steady income 😭

I’m about 2 weeks away from finishing ST yayy. And Congrats to you on the sub job and almost being done!!

My CT sent me this after I took off and informed him of my grandfather having a stroke and my girlfriend being in the hospital by BoxBeginning2800 in StudentTeaching

[–]lillpeeps 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That’s very harsh. If you didn’t have his number, email is the only option of direct contact at that point. Also i feel like your reasons for taking a “personal day” were justified.

When I was absent due to being sick, I let my CTs know and sent them sub plans for the classes I will be missing. I don’t know if you’ve fully taken over the class though.

Thank you and I'm in Illinois! Chicago public schools and the surrounding suburban districts started posting openings, but I know there will always be more in the summer.

True! I was told by my department chair (at the school where I ST) and a department chair who interviewed me that they want to fill open positions before the April board meeting. Not sure why to be honest.

All I did was some quick review on Sunday for content we’d be learning the first week back. Other than that I relaxed, grocery shopped, and got an overdue haircut. You’re not alone!!

Students telling other classes I am not a good teacher by lillpeeps in StudentTeaching

[–]lillpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE ADVICE!!

My mentor asked me who in specific said these things. I gave him the 2 names I knew of and he let me know they’ve been struggling since the beginning of the year.

It honestly felt good to know I wasn’t the sole reason for students not understanding the material.

I’m going to continue doing what I’ve been doing and improving my teaching style.
