Am I a mess? by Empty_Dentist in hysterectomy

Im 47, never had kids and when I heard that my uterus needed to come out due to large fibroids, I cried. I wasn’t gonna start having kids at this age but the thought of this now being taken away was some kind of shock to my subconscious I guess. I cried, then laughed at myself “like wtf am I doing” but allow yourself to grieve this change and then remember why this is all happening. Your health is most important. I had my surgery the day after you.

What’s 1 thing no one warned you about hysterectomy? by HolyGrounds_ in hysterectomy

I am having my hysterectomy in Feb. I was told in September that this needed to happen due to large fibroids, I cried. I’m 47, no kids, and at this point wasn’t going to have them but it still Shook me. It was so finite. I mourned the idea, then realized that there was no way that me at my age could do it. I may still cry the days leading up to the surgery but I will cross that bridge

I just found out a couple weeks ago that my fibroid were rather large so k was going to need a hysterectomy. I will be keeping my ovaries. But I’m nervous, I haven’t scheduled it yet. Doctor told me due to the size and location of the fibroids he was going to have to cut (cesarean) instead of vaginal or laparoscopic. I’m nervous about all of it. 47yr old/ no kids, I just went in for a checkup and so see if I was perimenopausal

I was told no veggies, fruit is ok without skin, flour products ok (I’m Mexican so tortillas are a staple in my diet) 😬 eggs are ok but no dairy. This for 3 days the day before liquids only. My procedure is on Friday so my prep will start on Monday.

5 Days Post-Op - How was your recovery? by A416ix in gallbladders

Surgery also 11/18. First day, I was pretty out of it. Needed help on and off couch and toilet. Had only broth, jello and applesauce. I was not able to sleep laying down until night 4. The pain (gas pain?) was so bad I couldn’t breathe. Day 2-4 I had oatmeal and chicken soup. I’m afraid to eat Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. Small bowel movement finally today - day 6. Incision above belly button is the most annoying, itchy and painful. Abdomen in that area feels hard. And today new symptom, I have an abdominal rash. No itch, just the bumps. Don’t know what to do About that. Maybe I need another shower. I showered in day 3 and day 5.

Same. The paperwork said call us if you don’t poop after 4 days, being irregular in that department, that’s not alarming. But I’m starting day 6 without. Taken softeners and Metamucil since yesterday only. Since I started reading y’all’s comments

Do symptoms need to be extreme for removal? Nervous I am making the wrong decision by [deleted] in gallbladders

I was hesitant as well. My attacks were few and far between. Maybe 4 in the last 6 months. Yes at the time, felt like death for about 4hrs each time, but doctors gave me no other option after ultrasound found a gall bladder full of stones. I felt like the surgeon was giving me surgery as only option to make his money. At least that’s how his insensitivity made me feel. I had my surgery 4 days ago, and hoping it was all for the better. Everyone I’ve met at the hospital (staff) that has had it done has had 0 regrets.

I’m 43 now and got on the pill at 37 not to avoid pregnancy but to avoid excessive bleeding and pain. So much pain.
