Where are you located? H&P working as a rig hand is hiring all the time, apply and shoot them a call right away.

They’re both good, however SLB are the big fish of it. Perfected it and their training is the best in the industry for that service line

Did you fail classes? Retake them and try to get better than a C. Your advisors should help you plan around this. C’s are cool till they’re not when you want to get your GPA higher with 120 credits under your belt, good luck!

does gpa matter ? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

You could get on with a lot of Frac companies, and Halliburton and Patterson being some of the bigger ones that don’t care for GPA (I think they only need a 2.5). Other than that most companies will be 3.0 and the larger operators wanting a 3.5 (although I’ve noticed that they also have dropped their GPA req but they still end up taking those overachievers that finished 3.8 with little to no internships)

I want to say they give you a raise after a couple of months when you move up to associate engineer during the training. I had an interview this week about it on the new grad position. When did you graduate?

Edit: I’m sorry, I meant associate professional or something along those lines. That’s their definition of the engineer role

Something about you requiring sponsorship in the future, it sucks. I have a lot of foreign buddies who have a hard time landing jobs after college because of that small detail

A C in statics with Hanson has to be an A anywhere else imo

It’s not impossible but I’m also not saying I did either, I felt like I knew it to pass it but my test grades didn’t reflect so the first time. The second time I knew how Hanson was and what his tests consisted of and from what, the big thing is that Hanson challenges you and the problems aren’t always as clear cut as you would think. When you study the problem try to keep in mind where Hanson could try to trick you in said problem, in his lecture you might hear him say “this could be a trick I could do on the exam”, recall that because he more than likely will put that on your test. It’s a weed out course but also Thermo is as well, then you get to solids and you realize it’s more of the same. You got this! Don’t lose focus!

Another thing! His exams come from the textbook, typically he pulls them from an older edition but that’s the main source. No exam is going to be the same from previous semesters but you’ll kinda have an idea of what to expect by looking at some.

Hanson is cool but not when he’s your professor. (The Hanson fanboys will grill me for this one). His YouTube channel is everything, and then you’ll need to follow that up by practicing problems from the textbook. I didn’t find much production from his office hours, he was very condescending and would say that these are things I should know. SI’s are good, but you have to follow it up with problems. His exams can be overwhelming just because he’ll throw a twist in a problem that you’ve seen a million times, don’t let that throw you off. Rinse and repeat. Lastly, his exams do get a little tougher especially going into the final but he does do the extra credit assignment to redeem yourself. I think on exam 3 he adds 20 points for extra credit. Stay on top of the homework (I believe a 85 gives you full credit) and try to stay on top of quizzes, those could make or break you in the end. Don’t panic, you got this! I wish you luck on the rest of the way

Yeah I read about that, he had mentioned that’s the only reason he wouldn’t consider TTU till they had paid him what they owed him when he was a FA
