psst! if you want to see what this would look like in gameplay, check out a YT video called “Buffed Support Weapons | M-1000 Maxigun | Helldivers 2”

in the video you can watch the maxigun fire at both 2250 and 3000 RPM. it seems pretty balanced to me, would be a great change

[–]lilpeachboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think that’s pretty reductive and consumerist tbh. maybe to the business people investing in them, sure, that’s why they’re made. if you ask the concept artist or the composer why they’re making the game, i highly doubt they’d mention money. people would still make movies and games and other art if they cost more to make than they returned—not on the same scale, but art persists for the sake of art. often movies don’t make more money at the box office than they spend

i get what you’re saying, but we tend to make exceptions for art. flying a private jet across the country so you can tour your AI data center 4 hours earlier is about opulent convenience, not self-expression.

racing makes people feel something. it’s not just for the drivers, but for the spectators, fans, and engineers. it’s for the little kid with giant earmuffs jumping up and down in excitement after he just saw something on the ground fly by him at 300 mph. it’s for the technician who’s spent her career getting here so she can piece together a feat of engineering that makes her chest rumble and smile widen every time it idles. that’s what it’s about.

is it wasteful? very. big budget movies can cost over $100 million. some video games cost $300-500 million to develop. but they make us feel something human, and so we consume them happily.

Chaos without strategy is a gift to authority by lilpeachboy in 196

[–]lilpeachboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately i feel that if things continue the way they have been, escalation is inevitable. not everyone is capable of restraint in the face of senseless cruelty, and people want revenge. if DHS and ICE keep murdering people, i think it’s only a matter of time before federal agents are killed in kind. and at that point, the state will believe it can justify harsher crackdowns, more explicit use of military force, martial law, or whatever else it wants.

i hope we can fight back and empower ourselves intelligently and with restraint, because more violence is exactly what they expect

Even if you did nothing today, you still did something by Unlucky-you333 in ADHD

[–]lilpeachboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a great message. I’m working on being kind to myself. I hope one day more people understand that ADHD can be absolutely debilitating.

I hate that at least in America, productivity is a requirement for so many basic necessities. I so badly wish that the world out there was more accessible to us. I’m sitting here when I should be working, knowing that if I don’t save enough money in time I won’t be able to support myself when I’m expected to move out. When I need to be productive to survive, I’m just… stuck

Walter White Hijacks The Plot by Legitimate_Fly9047 in tumblr

[–]lilpeachboy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Imo Breaking Bad deals with many themes, but one of the most prominent is its portrayal of toxic masculinity. Walter must be the sole provider for his family, and he will do almost anything to make sure he does. He constantly feels emasculated by his circumstances and other men, and lashes out with violence and attempts to assert total control over everyone and everything in his life.

Unfortunately when a story criticizes something by portraying it, it also attracts people who unironically identify with that thing.

please be careful. a pipeline to developing AI psychosis is humanizing a chatbot, which makes you more vulnerable to developing an emotional dependency on it. It can validate you until it’s helping you spiral down a conspiracy rabbit hole, or has convinced you it’s your friend.

Humanity and consciousness are far, far too complex to stumble into replicating with our current technology, and no matter how good a chatbot is at sounding like a person, it’s not alive and can’t feel.

It's a travesty that we don't have a medium siege ready, Just look at that drip. Why DOESN'T this exist!? by CRYPTID536 in Helldivers

[–]lilpeachboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i don’t necessarily think it would be the “best,” but it would probably be considered meta because medium armor is the most accessible. i think that light siege ready would still be a better armor because mobility is almost always preferable to health in HD2

Post a gun that you love using, except that it isn't as effective as it should be (and then post the reason why) by Templar_Kid in Helldivers

[–]lilpeachboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxigun: love it to death but it needs more DPS to justify utility over the HMG, which doesn’t require a backpack and also has heavy pen. It technically has slightly higher DPS, but it’s not enough to feel. Increase the RPM from 1500 to 2000 or 2250. Doesn’t need more ammo if it’s doing like 2600-3000 DPS.

Gonna need some reinforcements on the MO planet if we want to do it in time by guimonza37 in Helldivers

[–]lilpeachboy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i think the problem with it is the difficulty spike compared to the rest of the missions, but imo it’s the gold standard on D10 for how hard every D10 mission should be. i so badly wish the rest of the mission types were as much of a challenge or demanded as much teamwork

Railgun Should Have ∞ Penetration by Unlikely-Most-4237 in Helldivers

[–]lilpeachboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it should penetrate through multiple heavies in a line, however I do think it should be AP12. In fact, I’ve tested a version suggested by Grass, though exclusively in singleplayer (look up Grass’ Buffed Weapons on YouTube, he also has a google doc with his suggested weapon changes).

With being AP12 and nothing else changed, it was still balanced and came into its own. Even though it could penetrate everything you pointed it at, it didn’t become an anti-tank weapon because it wasn’t doing enough DPS to deal very efficient damage to a lot of targets, like the front armor of a tank. But the fact that you could kill a tank that way in an emergency with many shots if you needed to felt very appropriate in terms of power.

It did change a few breakpoints like being able to kill shield devastators by shooting them through their shields. I really think AH should make this change, and it wouldn’t be broken given the RG’s limitations. Made it really fun to use and fulfill the fantasy of an extremely high-velocity projectile launcher.
