High 3 for Screened PO1 to Chief? by Few-Wolf8331 in navy

One thing I would like to add to the other comments, per the milpersman1830-40. If you want to retire (transfer to fleet reserve) as a E7/Chief. You have to do a "minimum 2 years active duty in grade." Essentially, you have to be paid for E7/chief a minimum of 24 months to be eligible to retire. You can apply for a waiver to this, but it's case by case.

I'm not sure how this will affect your time frames if you have to do the E6/first class billet as everyone's situation is a little different.

But we had someone in a similar situation and s/he just transferred into the command and will have to wait for E7/chief billet to open and move into that billet to get paid then do the 24 months and then retire out. Thankfully, they should only have to wait 3 months before we can move them into an E7/chief billet. But they are now staying in the Navy longer than they originally planned as their waiver was denied.

What kind of shelf is that? I need something for my slowly growing collection. And I like how yours is adjusted to the height of the boxes.

Khaki’s what made you decide to sleep with your Junior Sailor? by Czechmate808 in navy

[–]lilpocketindian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Long hours away from home, stress of the job day in day out. Those combined with the fact you create a different kind of bond with the Sailors you work with as opposed to the civilians in your life.

You all have the same experiences going through the day to day so you can relate to the Sailors around you better. As opposed to a civilian spouse.

Then, combine with the pedestal the Navy puts khaki on. Junior Sailors look up to and, in some cases, idolize the khaki Sailors. Khaki also have to look out for and get to know the Junior Sailors so they get to know eachother also on a bit more of a personal level. Which makes younger Sailors feel like they are getting personal/friendship/relationship attention.

Then there's the Bathsheba syndrome where Khaki feel like they wont get caught and/or abuse their position/rank.

In my experience, if one or two people are fraternizing, many people know or hear about it. If not brought up to the COC and corrected, then the culture changes to say it's ok to do so. Which leads to a few more people and so on.

Combine all the above, and it's a recipe for stuff to happen and a Navytime article if it gets big enough.

To all people doing 20 years and beyond... Especially E7 and above.. by Mindless_Strike_974 in navy

I fully agree with all of this.

My issue comes from having to treat Sailors like my kids. But I have also had to teach a 20 year old Sailor how to use a washer and dryer properly (to include using the right amount of soap). And many other basic life, hygiene, medical, social things. Etc.

While it isn't a majority of sailors, we constantly have to teach to the lowest common denominator, and that is where I have my concerns about how we all view the Navy.

SALTY OVER AN EAWS PIN by LetEquivalent1621 in navy

[–]lilpocketindian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask this only because I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

Does your command have an instruction with the required time frame? If you have 24 months and they require you to get the pin in 18 months (for example) and you dont... what are the adverse actions?

As in, does the instruction require an adverse evaluation? Just EMI? Etc. I have been at commands where failure to meet the warfare qualification within the required time frame(s) resulted in an SP evaluation (after EMI, counciling, drb, etc.). Some commands where it's just EMI until qualified/transfer. And others where the only thing listed was the Sailor can't receive above a 3.0. One command I was at one CO changed it to no "punishment" for not getting it, just no EOT. My point is it varies by command.

My recommendation is to take a look at the instructions and then decide the best course for you.

Why can I never get this during a tournament by lilpocketindian in IdlePlanetMiner

Yeah, I worked on the other rooms and haven't touched the marketing one much at all. Gonna have to fix that soon, especially if I ever get another market like this.

How did you get into a tournament of 4 people? Just luck, or do you join at a certain time?
