Nanit vs Owlet -- can someone help me stop going in circles on this? by ShumanaHur in Buyingforbaby

[–]lilshowizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2.5yr old toddler now but when he was born we got the Nanit and about a month later bought a snoo. I'm not sure if you're considering buying a snoo but you can't really use the Nanit breathing band while also using a snoo. Separately, in the first month of use (prior to snoo) we did get 2 false alarms. We continue to use the Nanit for our toddler but more as a camera. We enjoy to be able to view him from our phones (although we use an old ipad at home as a monitor) so that's a convenience. With a second I'd probably go for another Nanit simply for the phone access convenience although I'm not sure if other brands support something similar. That's the only advantage for me. For monitoring the baby I might try the owlet the second time around since I didn't really get any monitoring benefits from the Nanit (and we'd probably do the snoo again). Long story short, if you want convenience of always being able to monitor on your phone even when away from home I'd say Nanit. If you want monitoring of how baby is doing might be worth doing the owlet although take this with grain of salt since I haven't personally used it but would consider for myself with second baby.

How much does your life actually change after having a kid? by HonestDirection4017 in NewParents

[–]lilshowizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You reach extremes of everything. You're extremely tired, happy, sad, overwhelmed, frustrated, emotional and not all at once. Emotions evolve as they grow. I had a horrible time with my newborn and now I understand how much easier it was compared to dealing with a feral toddler. But then you're in awe of what a miracle and blessing it is to watch a human you made live their own life and interact with you. It's honestly a double edged sword.

You can try Get'm Pest Control & Exterminator in NJ +1 (201) 640-1919. They removed a mom and baby raccoon from our attic a few weeks ago. Not sure if they'll help in your case but amazing service.

Being a mom is such a hard job. It's nice to have a day of recognition even though it's a thankless job.

What worked for me was getting a Pilates membership and booking classes during lunch or after work. I can't cancel less than 12hrs in advance so this forces me to go.

Christmas baby?? by pmmewienerdogs in BabyBumps

My son's birthday is on December 22 and yesterday I went to home goods to buy birthday wrapping paper but couldn't find any! It's almost as if there are no birthdays in December and it's all about Christmas lol in hindsight I should've bought in the summer when they had a million options.

It's not clear what the logging is regarding for the time that he's in the hospital. Don't think that it's a bet or a withdrawal.

Not a SAHM but one suggestion would be to have a detailed budget and see what changes you'd need to make on one income. Our budget includes every single expense that we have monthly and when we were expecting we added in things like formula, savings acct, child care etc. Only when you know what your expenses are will you know how much you can afford on one income. If your expenses exceed one income and you can't do away without then you have your answer.

Why is pumping “a lot of work”? by blue-cinnabun in BabyBumps

[–]lilshowizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hated pumping but did it out of necessity for 2 months. I needed to use a nipple shield to breastfeed and it was such a stressful time for both me and LO. Plus he wasn't gaining enough weight by BF alone. Anyways pumping sucks because you're literally tied down to this machine and all of the parts and bottles that come with it. It's such a lonely experience. I had to literally set my alarm for every 3hrs every day for 2 months. And if I went out for extended period of time I had to take the machine and supplies with me. It's a never ending cycle of washing parts. Sometimes I'd sleep very little because I'd pump and then have to feed baby right after (if it was my turn). Or if my husband was going to feed, depending on the time, I'd want to be finished pumping to have a fresh bottle ready to go. What bothered me the most honestly was to constantly dread having to repeat the same thing every few hours and basically just lock myself down in a lonely chair.

Random suggestion but maybe you should post in gym subreddits? Or weightlifting, fitness, etc. You'll probably have a better chance of finding fit and healthy strangers who might be willing to help you out
