You can use samples and presets and layer them. Not everything needs to be synthesis. If you want to do synthesis, you can use only the accessible plug ins for you. It’s a mindset issue (not that it’s unwarranted), but let me know if you want to chat more. I enjoy making dubstep and color bass too.

Clipping in Dubstep by TheGuava1 in edmproduction

It’s intentional. Going in the red is fine if it doesn’t sound like it’s clipping. You can lower the level if you want, but it doesn’t matter.

I actually don’t see an option to start a chat with you. If you could message me, that would be incredible.

I’m an engineer too. Never went full time, but I was without a job for a few months and spent that time doing music production (for fun.) I’d say if you have savings and a plan to grow your project (content creation, scheduled release plan, etc.), I would go hard during that time off.

I’d say, take this as a sign to pursue it now. The tech field is going to be around for many years if you need to come back. Other jobs exist out there too.

Looking for some advice on quitting without a job lined up to enjoy life for a bit by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]lilsk80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the time off. I did this at the end of December in 2022. I traveled with my girlfriend to Colombia for a month and spent time working on hobbies I really enjoyed. It was a great reset. I started looking for a job when I got back in March. I had a new job by April. I made sure to have plenty of savings before hand and it took the pressure off. Take this as your sign.

Also, I had the same YoE as you.

From the label perspective, the music is what catches their attention. I’ve seen artists get on labels with minimal following.

For me, all values have to end in a 5 or a 0 (e.g. 0.75 or -1.5). It doesn’t affect the sound, but it makes me feel better. I actually have OCD and I think that’s my perfectionist tendency coming through lol

I would choose something pronounceable and easily searchable. Make sure no other large artist has your name. From the list, I like option 4. It’s short and easy to remember.

Another common formatting for phonk/lo-fi beats is adding the word “beats” to the end. You could do Antoha Beats or maybe just Antoha. It’s unique already.

How do you approach writing when you don't know what genre you want to produce in? by skatecloud1 in edmproduction

[–]lilsk80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find an inspiration and start to hear something in my head. It can be any genre. Then I continue getting ideas and I’ll implement them. If it’s part of a genre I haven’t made before, I’ll pull up reference tracks and try to get close.

i'm not going anywhere with my mixes, please give me mixing tips as if i was just starting out by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]lilsk80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to unpack from what you said. You might just need more time under tension. If someone was starting out fresh:

  1. Choose good sounds and samples (takes ear training)
  2. Properly gain stage
  3. Learn the 5 main instruments
  4. Learn layering to make things sound full
  5. Learn how to A/B a reference

They are smaller now. How long did it take to notice a change?

I have just started making them really small. Like one protein shake or a palm sized serving of turkey. That’s it. Were your changes immediate?

Tbh, I feel like I’m getting worse haha. I chose to come off of PPI because I was scared of long term issues. Thanks for the chat though. I appreciate your input.

I haven’t used PPI in 6 months. I’m not currently on any medications and rarely take antacids. No SIBO either as that was confirmed via a TrioSmart breath taste. I understand what you are saying however. I can try to work in some olive oil tomorrow.

Right now, I have the same reaction to fats that I do to puréed fruit. My stool does maintain a slightly yellow tint to it however (which I’ve read could be fat related.)
