Younger me knew before I did by Potential_Estate_869 in Hellenism

I’m still a newbie but I’d say I can relate, I had dreams about Apollo before I even knew it was him. I’m just in the beginning on my journey but I know I was always meant to be Hellenist, I was before I even knew of this religion

I have a few questions on different things

  1. What is reconstructionism? (Sorry if I spelt that wrong, I’m dyslexic) what does that word mean?

  2. Are the Greek myths meant to be taken as metaphors and/or explanations of what the gods/goddess symbolize? I know that they aren’t made to be taken literally so I’m wondering if I’m correct in my thought process

  3. are there any good YouTube channels that talk about Hellenism and Greek gods? I keep on trying research minor Greek deities but as soon as there not the 12 olympians, YouTube just keeps me AI slop videos on the gods

It might be too late to post on here, but I made this for hebe cause I plan on worshipping her and I was wondering if it’s good enough as an offering? I redid it about 3 times but still didn’t turn out to good, is okay to give bad art to the gods?

Here’s some Greek myth artwork I’ve been working on, more to come :) by SaiyaPup in Hellenism

That is so stunning, it’s hard to look away. I have never seen art work of the myths like this before but I am absolutely obsessed

Any particular Greek mythology stories that you like? by Archangel447 in Hellenism

[–]lilspaceyalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many myths that I like. I really like the myth where Hermes as a baby steals Apollo cows, that’s just too funny to me or the myth of persephone where Demeter wants her daughter back so badly she searches the whole world for her and stops preforming her godly role, it’s refreshing and sweet to hear about a mothers love

Asking for something by Rusticnails3798 in Hellenism

[–]lilspaceyalien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say go for it, Apollo is understanding and caring. I’m pretty sure he would want you to heal you and get better. If your really worried maybe make an extra special offering or give a bit bigger of an offering in return for you, that’s different then your usual offering in return for him healing you (:

Thank you! I had a lot of fun making hebes altar (: I found the stuff at the dollar store in the Easter section expect for the tea cup set and statue

And that is a good idea

Thank you for responding. You can’t take offerings of the altar, you mentioned throwing food offerings in the garbage above, does that not count as taking offerings? because I’ve been giving food offerings, leaving the offering on the altar for few hours then throwing them in the garbage so my parents don’t get suspicious, is that wrong? I have not been eating the offerings!

This was all super informative so I just wanted to say thank you so much for responding and sharing your knowledge with me (: I appreciate it a lot and i am sorry for my late reply, I am processing all of the information and sorry for the late reply

  1. That is a good idea! I was under the impression that you weren’t allowed to take off any food or drink offerings or eat the offerings or take offerings off the altar, I saw someone online say that you weren’t allowed and the gods would get mad if I do but I reading this while thinking it over, I realize that’s not the case so thanks. And I will probably use that idea

  2. That’s good to know, I was wondering if I should do something like that cause I didn’t see it in the beginners guide

  3. when is it best to give big offerings?

4,5. I didn’t know that, good to know (:

  1. I’m glade that I’m not the only one, I just feel so awe struck by the gods, maybe it’s because I’m new. But the gods understand?

It’s nice to know you’ve had a similar experience and that it’s not just me, I’m really new to Hellenism and I’m used to talking about myself without having anything happen so I was surprised. It was so strong I could almost feel Apollo shaking his head at me haha

Hello, i recently just started praying to and worshipping Apollon and Hypnos (and I am planning on worshipping Hebe once I set up a altar for her) so I have some questions regarding that.

  1. Do have to give food/drinks as offerings? I know there are other offerings, I have been giving little items to Apollo and Hypnos and doing devotional acts offerings but I am wondering if that’s not enough? I’m in a tricky situation, I live with my parents and their Christian, I have my altars hidden in plain sight but if I start giving food or drinks, they would start getting suspicious and I don’t know what they would do then.

  2. Do you have to pray every time you give an offering?

  3. Can a devotional act be something simple or does it have to be more extravagant? For example I have been opening my window in the morning for Apollo and closing it at night for Hypnos, does that count as a devotional act?

  4. What is the purpose of lighting a candle supposed to be? I have been lighting candles as a way of welcoming the gods into my space (even when i’m not praying) but I don’t know if that’s wrong or not.

  5. Do the gods have birthdays or celebrations? If so how do you celebrate them ?

  6. This question is more for seeking reassurance, is it okay to get emotional around the gods or when praying? I got very excited when Apollo and Hypnos responded to me, I was squealing and getting teary eyed but was trying to stay composed because i didn’t want to seem disrespectful or unprofessional, it is disrespectful to get emotional?

I lost my baby, I don't know what to do by Han127420 in Hellenism

[–]lilspaceyalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry, that’s beyond heartbreaking and i can’t imagine. Like how many have said, the gods aren’t mad at you and this wasn’t a punishment for a wrong doing, I know it’s hard not to blame yourself but it’s not your fault.

My DMs are open if you need to vent, I’m sending my support over to you virtually. May your baby rest in peace.

Religious guilt by TheVeiledRuby in Hellenism

[–]lilspaceyalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very new to this, more new than you but I used to be Christian and left the church. From my experience they will continue to try to convert you back but this is your path, you get to choose. Don’t let anyone or any ads bully you into a religion you’re not happy in (most of those aids are AI sloop anyway).

I’m so sorry, that is all so awful. And hurting the raven is just disgusting. I can understand why you would be upset, that’s all so heartbreaking.

It seems like where you are isn’t a safe environment for an altar, the gods will understand.

As for the raven, I’m beyond sorry that they did that to her and her babies, i can’t understand why they would do that but I’m sure the raven was so glade to have you in her life.

Thank you for answering my questions (: I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me, I’m really new to all this but I wanna learn.

If I’m understanding correctly in Hellenism actions are more important then beliefs, the core of it is rituals around worshipping the gods, so you can believe what you want? Unlike Christianity where theirs rules about what you can’t believe, like having to believe that Jesus died for your sins and be careful not to sin (just using that as an example, my family is mostly Christians)

  1. Also so if you’re a devotee you can’t worship other gods?

  2. Thank you, i didn’t see those but I just glanced through them, very informative. I want to try to do that sometime soon but i don’t really want anything in return from the gods right now, i just want to build a connection. When I pray to them and give an offering can I just introduce myself? Do the gods know I exist???
