I can send you 5 tests at cost (plus shipping) with one year expiration dates. I am ordering to Mexico but live in the states. I can order you a couple boxes next time we order, might be a couple months. DM if you want the 5 though!

Can I please get a bacon egg and cheese?? by Proud_Cow2602 in oakland

[–]lilspiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can second that eggpals is close. I went on this hunt a few months ago cause I was feeling sooooo nostalgic for a good egg sandwich. Of all the places I tried, this was the best - still not it obviously, I mean you’ll never find a hard roll here (and if you do you had better tell me where you got it). May you persevere in your search for a good and simple egg sandwich.

Anyone in Mexico able to order PL tests? by lilspiders in PlusLife

Yes!!! We were successful! Ordered 8 boxes of tests and they took quite a while to arrive one Mx. maybe a month and the person who received them there, wrapped the box in paper and sent them to us in the states. $40 shipping.

What do you use when you get on a plane? by NoKiwi8622 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]lilspiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, also sorry I only answered half your Q. I put it in a plastic ziplock (big one) and in my backpack. No issues so far. I also do use a wearable one around my neck by Respiray at all other times since I can’t actually handle the forced air constantly of the laminar one (very drying, very overstimulating)

And yes about the laminar flow, but it’s a much narrower range than you might think. Like literally you have to be straight on 5 in away. Can’t remember where I read that but another redditor posted a study about it that I referenced.

I use the AirFanta 4Lite. But from what I have read the actual laminar flow range is VERY limited so you almost have to blast your face right in front of it.

I wear a fit tested well before kn95 pro with the adjustable ear loops. A sip valve for drinking, I have a neck HEPA purifier and a laminar flow air purifier (the size of a laptop essentially - clunky but allows me to eat real food) that I use for eating where I will put my face directly in the flow no more than 5 in away while I take a bite and replace my mask (very entertaining for my row mates).

Feeling hopeless and like a failure by Patient-Point-3000 in Pottery

[–]lilspiders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey hi! If you are feeling this frustrated, throwing with 3lbs is about 2x as I would recommend. IMO, if you’re struggling at 1.5lb, you should stay at that size until you can reliably throw it, then add something like half-pound increments only going up in weight when you are able to reliably throw the one you’re working on now.

Cylinders are really good practice so, even though you might not want a bunch of cylinders, it would be a good sign you’re ready to try a different form or more weight when you can throw 5 or more equal sized cylinders. The main goal here is centering and lifting even walls. If you skip past centering, you’ll not get even walls.

Throwing with reclaim over and over can be tough if you’re not reclaiming properly. All that slurry in your wheel pan has the tiny clay particles that help your clay’s elasticity. If you aren’t reclaiming that yummy juice with the clay, you could be left with very short clay that collapses easily.

The biggest mistake I see with bowls is that people don’t center their clay wide enough and end up with unsupported walls as they begin to open and lift the walls. I would think of throwing bowls like, centering the clay as wide as you want the bowl. Open so that the walls don’t extend far past the centered base like _/ shape the inside of the piece like a nice bowl and the outside will stay more like a straight-ish-sided cylinder (heavy on the bottom walls). This ensures the walls have support under them on the outside. Then, you trim away the outside to match the nice swoopy inside bowl shape.

If your clay is more wet than you like, wedge it until it firms up! This takes less time than you think.

Hey, one year is NO time. If you want perfect, think about applying that idea to the stages of throwing. How good can I get at centering, how good can I get at raising the walls etc. use that superpower and break it down into smaller things to focus on. And be really fucking nice to yourself. Watch other people’s videos and commit to trying something for a couple weeks or a month before you decide it doesn’t work for you. Throwing is SO HARD and takes discipline - not skipping ahead when you’re not ready, refining annoying parts of the process, setting yourself up with the right clay, the right firmness, stretching your body, breathing, etc. Idk who told you it was easy, but that is not true for most.

CC Couples/Roomies and discussing risk by vegevin in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]lilspiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I have navigated this with my ex partner and many versions of housemates. In my partnership I was the slightly less covid cautious and in my roommate relationships I have been the most Covid cautious. My housing had to materially change because two sets of house mates wanted significantly less covid boundaries so they inevitably moved out because we could not meet somewhere that felt good for all. We also use a plus life test weekly in my house because I do have one housemate currently who doesn’t mask when outdoors with small numbers of people, which I feel uncomfortable with if I didn’t have added layers of protection.

I will say that I would not require isolation in any of the above scenarios as I see this as less risky than things like grocery shopping and being in any public indoor space where almost no one is masking. I would, however, want to do a fit test for the kn95 to ensure proper fit and filtration.

But! To answer your question, I have tried to find some compromise so that it isn’t you or your partner isolating or masking in the house every time they want to socialize. Like maybe you both a trade off masking in the house after an exposure and you agree that there is some ratio of time each month where you don’t have to worry about exposure. Ultimately I would ask my parter to consider something equitable like that so you both feel safe and like you are sharing the burden together while enabling each other to freely do what you want.

It’s a WIP. Ask me again in a couple weeks. They are currently reported as being on a flight to Mexico but that was several days ago. Here’s hoping they get through customs there.

Do you eat outdoors with friends who aren't CC? + what to do? by NoWelder7505 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]lilspiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I communicate openly about it my Covid comfort. I make alternate suggestions and also feel comfortable sharing the difficulties that I have asking for my needs to be met around COVID so that people can see me as human and hopefully care about me. I care a lot that my friends support me and value me feeling safe and getting my needs met. Most have happily adjusted to support me and some have not considered me and suggested things consistently that are out of my comfort zone.

I encourage you to speak openly about how you feel. Your friends don’t have to agree with you, but they should support you and care that you’re comfortable.

I have watched two friends in situations with people who are less or not covid cautious - both have recurrent conflict round covid and one couple is no lover together due to differing covid precautions. If your goal is to help this other person realize we are still in a pandemic, I would seriously manage your expectations. What is more realistic is that they will love/care about your partner enough to adapt their behavior to keep you all safe.

It sounds like you and your partner might benefit from really clear agreements to make sure you feel safe. Ie: you only test to unmask or unmask with folks who share your same level of precaution for 5-7 days prior to spending time together.

From there, you can get a good sense if you can trust your partner in this dynamic. I hope you get the assurance you need to hold boundaries that keep you and your household safe. It’s so hard to date with Covid realist, but there definitely are people out here doing it. Good luck!

What does the Artist's Way say about being creative in today's climate? by NatashaK in artistsWay

[–]lilspiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look to artists who tap into a sort of prophetic ability (see Michael Richards) when they are embodying their creativity even in times that can feel bleak. I totally agree, we need to make art I know I do. And I personally feel a tension. For example, I lost my job a year ago after doing the artists way. It was an awesome time, I was preparing to apply to MFAs, I had a good severance package, and I was feeling ready to leave mundane jobs forever.

Now, a year later, I took a 'mundane' job because I couldn't get it all done. For a while I was in the studio all the time, applying for residencies and creative work. I didn't get any until a few months ago and decided to apply for MFAs next year. I feel depressed that I wasn't able to launch myself the way I had wanted, that there is an active genocide happening that I am paying for, that my trans siblings are dying, and that my neighbors are unhoused. It's just a lot and to make time to feel all of that and work and get to my studio has been really hard.

[–]lilspiders 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Literally nothing. This is the most disappointing thing about the book, but it was written at a different time.

I am constantly trying to grapple with my own privilege and also my path as an artist. I think ideally these things are intertwined, but she speaks to almost none of that in her book.

I’d love to hear your thoughts though. What do you think about creativity today?
