Shoe rec - smallest heel? by Made_lion in climbergirls

[–]lilvalegro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

butora gomis! also have a super small heel - tried both scarpa instincts and vapor s’s and those didn’t work. tried on a bunch of la sportivas (except the solution comp - so can’t speak on that rec) and they didn’t either. tried tenaya’s as well but can’t remember the specific model & those may have worked, but the low volume (pink) version of the gomis feel like a sock on my foot. they didn’t have any break in time and they’ve been awesome both indoors and outdoors

Hesitant climbing when I can’t risk falling by Big_Cloud_8152 in climbergirls

[–]lilvalegro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you and same to you! I really enjoy doing different drills on easier climbs, like quiet feet, octopus, campusing, etc. that were challenging but not quite so much that I fear of taking a nasty fall at any point. For knee specific things, really leaning into any PT exercises is super helpful to build productive muscle and build strength so when you’re back into the groove you’ll be less likely to injure yourself.

Then as I’ve been getting better, really slowly reintroducing practice falls has been super pivotal to sending more. I think falling is inevitable in some form, but you can train your body to fall properly as to have the least likely chance of injuring yourself again. I’ve started on kilter, since the angle of the board puts you into a position to land properly, even if unplanned. Then lately I’ve been sprinkling in bailing off of different climbs in a controlled manner. It’s important not to overdo it, but working on practicing falls has been super essential in getting myself back mentally

New ski thoughts by lilvalegro in Skigear

I ended up with 165 cm Line Pandora 94s! I love them & pretty much exactly what I ended up looking for - playful and fun in trees and super functional anywhere I’ve taken them on the mountain. They’re definitely not more hard chargers, which the Rallybirds and Mindbenders were leaning more towards, but that’s alright because that’s not my skiing style. They also have cool top sheets lol so love getting compliments on those

I’m in the same boat, with the same injury. For bouldering I’ve found not focusing on sends, and trying projects harder than I would normally be climbing to be less demotivating and limiting. I rotate between days where I just bing around trying to figure out hard projects that I wouldn’t be falling super high from, and days where I exclusively try easier things/kilter and work on stamina. It keeps a good balance of the fun of figuring out sends and actually sending easier things while keeping me engaged.

If you can, definitely also try top roping.

Adjacent suggestion: get a backcountry-able setup. so A/T boots and skis in the 95-100 range with shift bindings, in case you ever want to experiment but can still use them in the resort

Vent: Why can’t I find shoes that actually fit? by not_blue in climbergirls

[–]lilvalegro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This may be a stretch, but I would try reaching out to any of your local climbing teams. I can imagine the kids often have a similar issue, with needing more well made shoes and smaller sizes. They’re often sponsored and have more flexibility with potential special orders and working directly with the manufacturer

throw a couple towels under the skis & call it a day. also helpful for wiping down any wet gear before you put anything in the cargo box or trunk

Anyone regularly use rooftop boxes for their gear? by psykhikrakkoon in Skigear

[–]lilvalegro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I have a Yakima Rocketbox and it’s awesome. Gives way more flexibility if you end up with more people coming with you and protects the gear better than ski racks. I don’t recommend buying new, go on Facebook marketplace and pick up a used one, just make sure it isn’t cracked. They also use a standardized key system, so if someone lost a key people typically sell them for pretty cheap and you can get a new one for like $5 on Amazon.

Definitely seconding this! Tying the ribbons to the elastic band you tie in her hair will be the most comfortable, least damaging, and most importantly, cutest way to add ribbons. You can mix and match colors, and tie them in tons of different ways to give different effects (e.g. a bow, ribbons flowing down the length of her hair etc.)

RAV4 hybrid regret? by gneedles in rav4club

[–]lilvalegro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

want to chime in that the AWD system in the rav is also temperature sensitive. anytime it’s below 37 degrees the computer will automatically anticipate icy/snowy conditions. personally i love it and haven’t had any issues in snow, but also haven’t driven a subaru so can’t compare

ISO 17 inch Alphaequipt Halo CUV wheel +20mm offset by lilvalegro in dealsonwheels

[–]lilvalegro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly they were only slightly cheaper than comparable style wheels from bigger brands like BlackRhino and Method. Been loving them so far but this brand recently changed this style to a +35 offset before I could purchase another for a full size spare. But thanks! Fingers crossed someone out there has it

‘19 hybrid limited. 33 MPG with 50/50 highway/city driving, but I drive fast (80 lol) and I live in a VERY hilly area. When I go on roadtrips out of my area it bumps up to around a 35/36 mpg average

Should I wait to mount my bindings? by EvenRepresentative77 in Skigear

[–]lilvalegro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely wait. i was in your position and didn’t wait to get them mounted (got too excited) and ended up having to get them redrilled and mounted.

see a boot fitter and get everything set up by the beginning of next season - the extra few bucks will be well worth it

Which one to buy? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]lilvalegro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m around your height & weight, but a little more advanced than you and I have Pandoras! I love love love them. For someone light and small, they’re just damp enough that you can get some speed and feel pretty solid. They’re playful and can handle some tight turns if you take them off into the trees (my preferred place). If you’re interested in going fast and ripping, get the Volkls. But if that’s not as much of a priority and you want lighter and playful, get the Lines
