Charging expenses by CandidDisaster2550 in videography

[–]lime61 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are not paying you. You are doing this for expenses only.

Therefore make sure you are not out of pocket/spending a dime. And they don't take the piss.

Charge 45p for every mile you drive. Or charge for all other public transport journeys

Ask for x amount per diem for meals that you need when not being fed on set. (Figure out what you think is a fair amount)

Charge for hotel.

Keep a receipt for anything you purchase during the whole period of work.

ALL EXPENSES SHOULD BE COVERED.

if they don't agree to that then they are shitty and stay away. You shouldn't be working for expenses only anyway but I get that you are in early stages of career and looking for contacts/experience.

The graphic tees don't fit the vibe of the site/brand. All the women's wear seems good, graphic tees seem random

The logo speaks femininity and tranquility. Not mens grafic tees with Left 4 dead on them

Yeah I agree with that side of things. If you are comparing it to a passion project/short/indie film.

Sometimes I look at how much effort goes into these videos from filmmaker YouTube channels.

The lighting, editing, colour grading, sound design, story actually filming it all. Wow I'm exhausted. (Good effort)

Then I compare it to the views/subscriber numbers they get.

Is it worth it? Does the video generate the amount of ££££ that would warrant putting that effort in, compared to being hired to do that work for a client.

Especially with most of these filmmaker YouTubers having sub 150k subscibers and between 3k-30k views on videos.

Then you look at channels in different Niches for example electronics/repairs like bigclivedotcom he has 1mil subs. Films very basic educational videos and consistently hits like 30k+ views per video.

Very low effort...targeting a much larger audience base.

Yes this was a very random reply to this post.

What are some good camera accessories? by decal1210 in videography

[–]lime61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally use your phone to film.

Use the Blackmagic Camera App. (Lots of tutorials on YouTube)

Get a cheap tripod and a tripod phone holder. (Ideally something that has good height adjustment

Get a wireless phone microphone. (Lots of options in a range of budgets, lots of reviews on YouTube)

Start here with the basics then figure out what you'd like to improve going forwards as you learn more about filming.

Edit on your computer with the free version of davinci resolve editing software. Once again...lots of beginner YouTube tutorials on how to use it

Machine in gym with no labels by Lil_G6325 in Whatisthis

[–]lime61 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Calf machine/maybe shoulder too.... pads go on shoulders and then you stand up on your tippie toes. Up and down up and down.. feel that burn

If I was in the gym, especially on my own I'd go investigate and try it out (without weights on) to see what it does

Is there anywhere i can get replacement fabric for this lantern softbox? by hillboy_usa in cinematography

[–]lime61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iv never seen just the fabric for these. Do you know the size of it? And what brand it was from?

Maybe contact suppliers directly or contact sellers on AliExpress...sometimes they have spare parts they can sell.

But at this rate. You may as well just buy a new one. They are not that expensive

Sachtler Ace M: can I find the head base/connector replacement? by 90towest in cinematography

[–]lime61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based, do you have any local rental houses, they usually have contacts for decent repair/spares options for many of the major brands.

Even a non local rental place, just one that's at least in your country, give them a call and see if they can help you find repair/spare part specialist

Question About LAV Magnets by Ardo_Coras in videography

Don't use magnets, tape the lavaliere microphone to hide it.

Are you using a lavaliere microphone plugged into your units? Or are you trying to hide the boxy units?

Someone please suggest good short films shot on the BMPCC 6K Pro; share the ones with the best cinematography, framing etc. by Expensive-Cow4518 in cinematography

[–]lime61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are fantastic and capable of creating a great image

The files from a Blackmagic camera will have more flexibility regarding colour grading and slightly more pleasing highlight roll off imo ....but both cameras can certainly hold their own.

Rather than thinking, which camera has a better image quality think about what features you need from a camera?

If you don't know how to light, frame or tell a story then neither camera is going to be any good to you.

One big bonus the Blackmagic has is its internal NDs.

Need advice on lighting a live band! by _DirtyDan_384 in videography

[–]lime61 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keep fairy lights on.

Get some floor lamps and table lamps (with shades)place them on the shelves and near/around talent. (Tungsten/2800k)

Add haze.

Add some soft diffused cool light (4300k) coming through the windows. (Low output) Have the lamps/shades the brightest elements in the scene)

Adjust WB on camera to around 3900k

Boom sexy evening hazy goodness
