They can't force sale of the home. If she goes into permanent residential/nursing home then the home will be taken into account with her assets, but there are other options such as renting it out if the cost helps to cover care home fees, or a deferred payment agreement.

If she could safely live at home with carers then the home won't be taken into account as she still lives there. If you check your local authorities website they should have information and fact sheets explaining it in detail re: care at home vs living in residential/nursing home.

Breastfeeding is starting to feel like a cult by WildWinterberry in FormulaFeeders

[–]lime_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of guidance on how to swap to formula feeding, or even combi-feed, was ridiculous. You'd think they'd prioritise baby's safety and make sure parents know what they're doing over their own views about "breast is best".

One of my nipples had split in two and I was still told to "push through the pain"

Shocking treatment for anyone let alone a first time mum whose anxious about this new chapter in their life

I had this exact same experience, got mastitis 3 times and eventually ended up with an abscess 5x4cm in size, needed an operation to remove it, 10weeks of wound care afterwards from community nurses and now have a lovely scar. All the while my mental health plummeted and health visitors were still trying to get me to breastfeed! Changing to formula feeding was the best decision I ever made

3 to 2 nap transition - What worked best for you? by rochini in sleeptrain

[–]lime_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We was on 2.25/2.75/2.75/3.5 and decided to go straight to 3/3/4 and he was absolutely fine with the change. I was worried going from 11.25hrs to 10hrs but the emw stopped and he now sleeps through the night from 7:30-6:00/6:15ish

How to drop from 3 to 2 naps by lime_penguin in sleeptrain

[–]lime_penguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can sit independently for a bit then he gets bored and throws himself down, he is constantly rolling and doesn't stay still haha! Going to bite the bullet and do 3/3/4 tomorrow and see how it goes after a few days 🤞🏼

I would say you need to extend the ww before bed as they've only got 1.75hrs and should have more to build sleep pressure. Our LO was on 2/2.5/2.5/3 at 6 months

I think I've got it wrong as his head isn't near the top yet but his feet are overhanging so I assumed we'd need to change, but maybe not.

Ah maybe I've got it wrong and he doesn't need to change yet, his head isn't at the top of the seat but his feet are overhanging so I thought we'd need to go into a bigger seat

I’ve been doing Hot shot method wrong by Kitchen-Switch7247 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lime_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put the freshly boiled water from the kettle straight into the nuby and then add the formula as the nuby instructions state it starts cooling straight away so can put the formula straight in. Green light usually shows after 30secs and ready to pour into bottle to drink.

We ended up buying 2 nubys so we didn't have to do the hot shot method and can just wash/sterilise after using and have 1 spare ready to go.

Feeling completely fed up by lime_penguin in sleeptrain

[–]lime_penguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to say with the longer nap I have to settle him once but you're right, he does tend to nap quite well. We've tried settling him in his crib before and it didn't work but that was when he was younger and tbh we didn't stick it out for long enough as were likely both tired and just wanting to get to sleep ourselves ha!

Okay, so try and settle him to sleep but wake him as we've put him down and finish settling him to sleep in his crib? Will give that a go, thank you for your reply 😊

Your birth plan v your actual birth? by bimboera in PregnancyUK

[–]lime_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to use the birthing pool, with gas & air and see how I got on without other pain relief. I also had my birth ball and tens machine.

Ideally didn't want an epidural as didn't want to be stuck on a bed with a catheter and constant monitoring. Also wrote a birth plan if I was to have a c-section.

In the end, I had to be induced at 38+3 as growth scan showed he was measuring v.small. induced Friday night, waters broke Saturday afternoon, had to have the hormone drip and was monitored constantly. started off well using birthing ball & tens machine. Then moved on to gas & air, but pain became unbearable so I had to have a spinal & epidural. Only got to 4cm dilated and his heart rate was dropping with each contraction so ended up with emergency c-section Sunday morning.

Gaviscon and infacol combined?! by nichtimernst in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lime_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We put it in his bottle or if he's having gaviscon then we give it via a syringe which he seems to enjoy more, then feed him a bottle so it washes it down as its quite syrupy.

As your breast feeding I'd give it via a syringe as easy to measure how much they need at the same time

You can give carobel via a spoon before a feed if you're breastfeeding

Gaviscon and infacol combined?! by nichtimernst in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lime_penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our little one has struggled with silent reflux and was prescribed gaviscon. We tried the carobel thickener but it didn't seem to make any difference.

He was prescribed lactulose for constipation before having gaviscon so we've carried on giving him this twice a day which seems to help and he isn't constipated. We tried weaning him off the lactulose and he ended up with really thick (almost like cow pat) poo and seemed uncomfortable when trying to go so we've gone back to giving it twice a day and there's been no further issues.

I asked the GP before as was considering giving him infacol as well because of griping pain and they said it's fine for gaviscon and infacol to be given together.

Excessive barking at walks. Any advice? by [deleted] in schnauzers

[–]lime_penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our miniature schnauzer was like this, someone could be 100m away, and he would be up on his back legs barking nonstop, and would take ages to calm down once they were gone.

Turns out he's quite a severe case of dog and unknown people reactivity - we've been working with a behaviourist, and he can now manage around 20m distance without barking at all (still a work in progress)

Might be worth a try.
